hi all please can someone tell me whats good about a fiat as ever since iv had mine ( my first car ) its gone wrong has any one got anything good to say about puntos AUTOMATIC might i add as im feeling really fed up keep hearing negatives eg oh no not a fiat punto or oh not an auto what you get one of them for! well we r not all blessed to pass in a manual. can any of you fiat owners cheer me up pleeeease xxx:cry:

I can't comment directly on the automatic side of life having always driven manuals but FIAT definately have some major plus points with their manual cars compared to Rover and Renault.

High MPG (that has held through it's years of life) for its class, understated statistics. Good insurance category, readily available spares, FiatForum (really useful).

I can go on about things I like, but comparisons are somewhat limited between:
Diesel Renault Clio (1.6)
Petrol Rover Metro (1.0)
Petrol 1.2 8v Mk1 Punto
Petrol Rover 211 (parents)
Renault Laguna 1.6 (parents)

Definately think of the petrols it is the most forgiving I have driven with the best responsiveness on the throttle and gearing side of life.

Hope that helped and do you want any comparissons doing like brakes etc between those cars above? :)

punto speedgear isnt bad, punto selecta is rubbish, not a reliable unit as the punto owners will tell you

unless you have a disability that prevents you from using a manual then i would very highly recommend that you do a manual test. if you dont then you are only wasting time and money by putting off the inevitable, because eventually you'll get fed up of having to choose from such a limited number of cars and you'll do your manual test. plus manual cars are quicker and use less fuel compared to their auto equivalent.

Pros of owning Fiat

Like all Italian cars they are sexy to look at, compared to the new Corsa which so fugly!!

The F.I.R.E engines are bulletproof. I drove my old one with a bust head gasket and next to no coolant for 6 months through the summer and it never missed a beat!!

Value for money.

Low CO2 emissions if you care about the environment.

Very customisable especially the 500.

My dealer is very good so that is a plus for me too.
