Hello,

Who can give me a supplier of tophat shims to suit 7mm valve stems? That will post or are based around North East London. Cheapest (and only place) I can find is:

http://www.arrowprecision.co.uk/details.php?id=70140

Slap on VAT and postage and it becomes £106  If I can't find any other options then I'll bite the bullet. Bright side is you get two sets as I only have eight valves, so won't have to hunt around again when adjustment time comes round...

Cheers

What's the OD?

I take it you've gone from shim on top of bucket to shim under bucket? If that's the case (and without pics it's difficult to guess at how you're doing it) you might look toward Alfa (pre-FIAT re-engineering) or Ducati.

Otherwise, I don't get it -- after all, the shim in shim on top of bucket doesn't touch the valve.

There's no great secret about making these things (but finding someone to do them might be an issue).

Have indeed gone to tophat shims that sit on top of the valve stem and below the bucket. The buckets are lightweight items which do not accept the biscuit type shim.

Thanks for the suggestions (y)

Quick call to Guy Croft would always be my first avenue for such things. I take it you will need a range of sizes, unsless all installed heights are identical?

Cheers for the suggestions guys. And for that interesting piece of info jug :D

My local engine place are, as allanhelen suggested, doing me a deal for my old shims. I can't get down there by the time they shut during the week so have to wait till Saturday before I collect them. :( Pics then!

As it happens, all of the shim sizes required are almost the same, despite the differing inlet/outlet clearances. Though number eight is the exception to the rule; that valve would appear to be a good 2mm shorter than the others!
