Hi guys

Can anyone tell me a bit about gearbox compatibility for a Multipla 1.9JTD

I’m looking at getting one with a broken gearbox and could do with knowing what gearboxes will fit and work with the car.

IE will any gearbox from a Fiat / Alfa with the JTD engine fit and work?

Are there different sizes of JTD engine

Are any gearboxes stronger inside – say a Stilo one better than a Doblo for example.

Do they have different ratios? Say would a gearbox from a Ducato make a Multipla quicker off the mark?

Cheers,
Lewis.

you can fit any 1.9JTD (or even 1.9TD) fiat/alfa/lancia gearbox, but the ratios vary a lot depending on the model so i would go for a multipla gearbox if you do not want to change your ratios. in some cases a change of ratios actually improves acceleration and fuel economy so it isnt always a bad thing to use this opportunity to try different ratios from another car.

the 2.4JTD box does not fit.

i'm not sure if the 1.9 GM version (saab tiid and vauxhall cdti) will fit, but i would not be surprised if it did because they use the same engine so the bell housing will fit onto the engine at the very least. driveshafts and gearbox mounting point may be different, a quick inspection would tell you more.
