Please can someone shed some light to the problem i'm having with my 03 plate, 1.2 petrol punto. Couple of weeks ago my head gasket went.Took it to the dealer to be fixed to find the day I picked it up that if I went over 70mph my fuel feed/ignition system failure light started flashing and as soon as I went below that speed it went off again, didn't notice any reduction in performance or fuel efficiency. Going to the dealer tomorrow but since it first started the warning light is now alternating between being on all the time until I hit approx 75-80mph and then starts flashing or just flashing all of the time regardless of the speed. Went out earlier this evening to worringly find my rev counter hitting 2-3 when I was static with my foot very much off of the accelerator and doing it also when driving, is this some kind of cruise control I didn't even realise punto's had, ha ha. Seriously worried I'm going to be landed with another huge bill if the dealer suggests something else horribly wrong. Have had this car from new and up until the head gasket it's been an uncomplaining workhorse. I drive approx 100 miles a day for work and do sometimes push her :). Any ideas people..?

flashing means ecu is detecting a misfire.
high idle is usually a vacuum leak.

misfire could easily be due to reusing the old HT leads (they easily get damaged on removal) or the whole problem could be down to a simple vacuum leak causing unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust so ecu thinks there is a misfire. in that case i'd be looking for a cracked breather hose or something on the intake that hasnt been put back correctly.
