Hi anyone

I have just rebuilt the bottom end of a Fiat Twin cam 1984 out of a Super Mirafiori and installed it into a boat. The motor just will not start or even cough and there is something fundamentally wrong and I can not put my finger on it. Can anyone advise?
Done so far:

1. Cam shafts retimed ... i.e. no 4 cylinder at top of compression stroke and the markings on cam pulleys all lined up nicely.
2. No 1 cylinder at top of compression stroke (both cam lobes pointing up) and with mark on pulley set to TDC and rotor pointing to number one segment of distributor (Electronic) Confirmed with a timing light.
3. Good spark on all four plugs.
4 Squirted easy start into air intakes.

Despite all this, I don't get any kind of cough or splutter and I just can not understand it.

I have tried moving distributor four times, each time at 90 degs to what was before

What kind of daft mistake may I have made during the rebuilding of the motor? I.e. Can the bottom pulley be incorrectly installed? I don't believe it can but I am not sure about anything now.

Help !!!!!!!

This afternoon I went over (again) all the settings both for cam shafts and
Ignition. I did find the inlet cam pulley mark about one tooth out if you
see what I mean. I corrected this and STILL no ignition. Something (perhaps the god of Fiat engines) whispered in my ear to advance the ignition by about 20 degrees. I did this and got a cough. Heart in my mouth, I advanced it a bit further and she burst into life. To say I am pleased was an understatement.
I will add to this post later today when I have used a time light and see exactly where the spark is taking place relative to the notch on pulley.

P.S. Expect another post soon on oil supply problems due to motor being 18deg off the horizontal all the time...food for thought!
