Hi Everyone,

I'm intereseted in buying a Fiat Spyder. I was looking into MGB's and Triumphs, but was told to stay away from them, because they are a bit of a maintenance headache. Are Fiat's the same, or are they more reliable and less finnicky.

I am mechanically UNinclined, and want something to just putt around in, but use quite often at the same time.. The one I'm looking at is a 1978 with an electronic (or electric?) start conversion, the guy said it runs great, and has had no problems, and it's been rebuilt in the past few years. It has 100,000 miles on it, and looks excellent in the pics. I know it's tough to answer this without seeing the car, but I'm more looking for insight into the cars temperment. Also how is the ride? Rough? Rougher than the mgb's? or softer? What is it like driving these cars? Are these pretty simple cars that are mostly headache free if they have been maintained well? What are you thoughts / advice.

My other thought is to buy a 89 bmw 325i convertible, but these look like fun!

Thanks - any wisdom would be appreciated.

Jeff

realistically every classic is a maintenance headache and will require near constant attention, that is a big part of why so many people love them. a 78 spyder will be very smiilar to a mgb or stag, time has levelled the playing field very much. by this age the condition and history is far more important than the badge on the front.

wanting a daily driver that is trouble free and yet also a classic 2door coupe, is much the same as asking for red hot ice cream.
