Fiat Forum Rally 2004

This, on paper, to people sounds simple. A few cars, a route, and finish. And after many a meet and a drink along the way, you'd all go home, thinking how wonderful this was.

Yes, in ones mind, its a simple thing. In reality, it'll be hell for the organisers - perhaps to the point of impossibility. Put it this way, unless someone takes charge, and TELL people the route, rules and procedures, you'll end up with a usual FF poll, which will branch out into more polls, then people will moan about how far it is, and how they cant afford to take any time off work. And then the whole thing will break down, and we will discuss the football, and polls about England - Croatia will emerge.

Now why thats fine for some, others (myself included) would actually like this event to happen, and would be willing to spunk some cash, and maybe lose an entire weekend of our lives, for this to become a fond memory. So, bearing that in mind, i wrote this.

Now don't go thinking i'm arranging anything here, oh no. This is me, a keyboard and visions of a UK/FF Gumball Rally, featuring Unos rather than Enzos, and Skegness rather than Sunset Boulivard. But hey, don't drop the idea just yet, as it could be Fiat Forums greatest event yet.

So here we go...

Firstly, i shall start by saying this - if you find your home > workplace commute a hard drive, then i suggest you point your mouse elsewhere, as personally speaking, i'd do this proper. And proper means outlay. I have vivid pictures of FF route cards, stickers and logos for cars (allbeit some £2.50 print-offs from Halfords) 2 days of solid driving, people B&B'ing and sleeping rough, cars breaking down as the Welsh hills kill off all 54bhp of their Italian muscle, and moments where it'll be just as easy to f*ck off home rather than carry on. A start beginning with a meet, then the route, then finished with (another?) meet. Don't get me wrong, i'm not asking for champagne podium here, some Asda Vin Rouge will do me fine. All in all, a weekend of great fun, based around cars we (supposedly) love.

Sound good? Well, if you have petrol running through your veins, it will be. But there are of course some major problems to consider...

The route. Too long, and people will moan. They will cry. To be honest, most won't be bothered to drive that far, and would rather read about it than participate. If, however, a route was devised, and enough people were game, then you could sort all the niggling problems easily enough between you. Speaking from a personal point of view, my problem would be that i don't drive a Fiat anymore, and my honda plastered in FF stickers might look odd, and indeed people would moan, but hell, at least i'd have got off my arse and entered. Obviously, people wanting to take part would need a spare weekend, a car capable of driving futhur then Tescos, and the money to fuel, eat, sleep, drink.....

And if after all that, people are still game, then we have a Fiat Forum Rally 2004. However, i fear the worst. I fear polls. I fear going around in circles. One thing i don't fear? That blue badge in my rear view mirror :)

It sound interesting, even though I can imagine an absolute nightmare to organise!

Are there any websites we can use for information? This must have been done before, and there must already be pre-used routes, or such like.

As Gaz said, before we know it the year will be over; I would prefer to do this in the summer months personally.

I would have loved to do this (i think) but I won't have my car after the end of sept (bloody university costs!). It would be fantastic fun and as Bushboy has said, could raise a fair bit of money for charity and good press for FF

Best of luck to you all who get into it.

You wanna book a seat in mine now, if all this does come off!

Just think, full colour sat-nav, a reliable Peugeot diesel, multi-zone climate control, fridge, etc.....

Maybe I should start charging :)

I reckon we need more of a gumball type rally, like mentioned in previous threads - the whole thing is just an organisational nightmare!

BUTTTTTTONNNS!!! YA HAHA! My dad used to joke that when I got a car he would buy me 40 buttons just cuz i like them - whether they work or not ;)

I can't see organisation being a massive problem? Everybody has brains...(i think) Set up places to between, a place for overnight stopping etc. and forget those who don't make it!
