Hei.
The other Fiat, the Ritmo all in a sudden generated a strange transmission grinding. See the picture of the car below, it's not very pretty, but noone knows it's a "twin"-litre'd twin-carb'ed twin-cam'ed engine in there with 130 pure italian stallions.
To the problem. Yesterday we were cruising the highway at 100 kmph (60 mph). Then to get off the highway we geared it down into 4th gear for the engine to brake. And the grinding noise that appeared from nowhere were very disturbing. The noise is now evident in all gears, worst in lower gears, less in high gears. So we don't think it's an internal gearbox failure.
The clutch pedal works fine, and engaging gears are as ok as before. 3rd gear has always grinded when doing 0-60 mph at 7.8 seconds. The clutch pedal is also in the correct position beside the brake pedal. When the car idles or revs up there is no noise. There are no noises from the engine at all except the good ones. The noise comes when releasing the clutch and engaging gear. The clutch is cable operated, and the gear box is a racing type box.
Anyone with any suggestions? We have no idea...
Morten.
