Took the car down to Red: Dot Racing in Watford today, got the car fitted with one of Petes famous GSR induction kits, and whilst i was there, got the car remapped.

To start the day (whilst i was waiting for pete to come down after getting in to some really heavy traffic) the guys put the car on the rolling road to see how it perfomed standard.

Bareing in mind i have a MK2 Punto JTD with 80 BHP from the factory, i was suprised to find that infact it was running 96 BHP.
It looks like the previous owner had already put a small map on it.

Pete arrived and got fitting the GSR.
After a few complications with the air flow sensor, the kit was screwed in to place, he was under the car for a while, but eventually the kit went on and fitted perfectly, this was about 3:00.

From that point till very late in the day, Pete and the guys at Red: Dot tryed about 4 different maps on the car, to find the one that would give me what i needed from the car, eventually we settled for one map that ended up giving me +40BHP from where it was, which is +50BHP from factory leaving me with 130BHP.
More to the point, it gave me +53ftLb or torque taking the car up to 194ftlb

I was then told to take the car for a spin.

The difference was unbelievable, power through the whole rev range, and when you put your foot down at ninet... erm.:eek:..70 ;) it just keeps on givng.

It's truly a new car, gone from the pokey diesel to a speed demon. MPG staying much in the same range i cannot believe what a difference it has made.


This isn't an advert, just a recommendation, if your looking at getting a remap, phone these guys, they do more than their website leads you to believe and they are really nice blokes aswell.

Glad you like it, I love my remap. Mine is a few bhp less but more torque.

Has anyone found any clutches that can get all the power down without wearing out? The Alfa 16v wont fit.

Have you tried the new GP ones or Brovo ones. If the clutch doesn't fit you might have to look for another flywheel from the other 1.9 Diesels that are fitted to Fiats.

BTW the torque figures on the graph are at the wheels. Only the bhp figures are flywheel figures.

i never really agree with posting flywheel figures for torque, the way it calculates the flywheel figure using the load while the engine is running down seems a bit of an inaccurate method to me. i know there is no better alternative but i have little faith.

was it done in 3rd gear? i've seen very different results depending on the gear used.

i remember seeing a 3bhp gain when tyres were inflated slightly more. ever since then i lost all faith in RR results, for pre/post comparisons on a car they are excellent, but you cant accurately say one car definately has Xbhp or Xlb/ft more than another because there are so many variables to consider.

You are quite right jug, it is very difficult to get absolute figures from rrs. But professional operators can determine whether a reading is out or not.

At Track & Road we had some interesting experiences in this respect. From the rr operation they are the most professional people I came across in my life.

I personally don't give to much about it what the absolute figures are. Important is the improvement that is seen after. But people do like to know the figures and I try to down rate them. Unfortunately people don't take ones word for it when you tell them that the car was faster on the drag strip. But then - humans are a funny breed.
