same as usual, you have to pay them to release the payments from then, and as if by magic once you pay them you never hear another word.

let them think you're interested and see how long it takes before they request payment. its usually the 4th email. i've even emailed fake payment slips to get them excited. such fun.

it is never ID theft with nigerian scams, they always do advance payment fraud.

they'll request that you pay this unpaid contractor to release the $10m.

Its something to do with a swapping of cheques and even tho the money goes into your account they pull it back, whereas your money has gone in and is removed from their account. there is another scam on the same lines coming from Hong Kong. ask for $100 in cash as a statement of good itent and see what happens!

thats when they try to buy online items and pay by money transfer or cheque . they pay £1000 for something costing £100, you refund them the change, they get £900, you lose £900 when the transfer bounces.

thats different to an advance payment scam like the one in this email.

same way most people do, you can buy a list of 1 million addresses for $1. plenty of websites do this kind of deal even though its illegal. they get the addresses using web crawlers set to record anything@anything that they find on the web.
your email must be posted somewhere online.

Just type 419 scam into Google, some of the sites are hilarious where they have competitions to see who can get the Mugu to wear the dumbest sign. As to who falls for it, the answer is sadly lots of vulnerable people who can't afford to so anyone who takes the time to bait them is doing a good thing, however be careful out there as you could finish up dead dealing with Nigerian gangsters. You can also type "e mail harvester" into Google to see wher all that spam comes from.
