I'm hoping any huge increases will apply to new cars only - be a bit unfair on the Stilo 2.4 owners if their road tax doubled!

been talking about this at work. there's a good few people i know who'd be paying £400. but surely it will only apply to new cars. i wont own a post 2007 car until 2015 at the earliest so i'm not panicing yet.

I don't mind, I always choose a car based on the environmental impact as much as other factors so it's not a problem Most people don't though, but everyone pays attention to what's in their purse/ wallet so with a bit of luck it might start making people think and care

Diesel, economical (40-50mpg so no more than the 1.2 then), low CO2 emissions/ relatively low other emissions OK so there was a lot of stuff went into making it, probably not much more so than other modern cars!

Driving a smart is punishment enough.

I think its a good thing to be honest its gonna help the environment well should anyways and hopefully put people off with having big engines some of those people are single and live only in a town no need for it, just show offs oh hey look at me ive got money, apart from that big familys are gonna suffer as they need big cars for there little ones, but then again theres family cars out there with a 1.2 1.3 & 1.4 engines.

Not all big engines are bad. My Marea 2.4 only pushes 180g/Km. Would be £160 a year tax if it was a year newer.

why dont we have a "delusion tax" for people who think co2 emissions are a problem, then we could scrap road tax for people who live on planet earth.

tbh its been happening every day since i started working in the uk. i'm not a rent boy so it really shouldnt be happening at all. but i'm just a pointless peasant so what would i know, i should just shut up and pay my taxes and have the decency to die before my pension.
