Sign the petition please guys :)

Bio diesel is a sustainable "green" fuel, usually made from a waste product, namely cooking oil. The environmental impact of using bio diesel is far less extreme than that of using mineral diesel. Bio diesel is widely available across the UK and no modifications to your vehicle are required in order to use it. The current reduction of 20p per litre (which is not seen at the pump due to the cost of supplying bio diesel against a relatively low demand) gives the motorist very little incentive, given the environmental benefit (for example cleaner emissions and thousands of gallons of waste cooking oil not going to landfill, fly tipped or illegally poured into the drain every year). Come on Prime minister give those motorists that are trying to be green a helping hand!

Irrelevant of being carbon neutral, we haven't enough land to make it feasible on a proper scale.

Not at all, it's just a recent report proved that it needs a disproportionate amount of land, so we can have biodiesel but forget eating!

ahh not enough land in little england where it is precious.

but in countries like hungary and romanina, and mainly the ukraine, they have a VERY good climate for growing sunflowers (bizillions of hectares of the things) and also southern parts of russia.

its helping us out AND THEM.
and the enviroment.

yet no, the government is MORE interested in $$$ from them americans for looking after their precious nukes.

great ehh.

anyone feel a mutiny coming on??

Again, it's an idealistic view but completely impossible. To make diesel in the UK 10% biodiesel would require a massive 25% increase in ALL arabal farming land. It would turn the country into a desert in a century, the same across the whole of Europe.

Hungary, Romania, Poland etc. are built on sand as it is, it's not ripe for production of biodiesel, even if it was, the amount of land necessary would be absolutely huge - beyond all magnitudes thought possible.

0.56 tonnes of fossil fuel are required to make every 1 tonne of biodiesel, hence even a 10% mix would only be saying 4%.

If the same land was set aside as forestry instead, after 50 years, the CO2 saving would be double that than if it was being used for fuel.

Of course that still means a decent energy source is necessary.

This is going to sound like a silly question, but i'm going to ask anyway. Can all diesesl use this fuel (ie. cars with or without turbos). Or is it just straight diesels?

Matt

Has more to do with the maker of your fuel pump. Most modern diesels are fine, however some older cars with Lucas fuel pumps are not so good. The bio-matter sometimes breaks down the rubber components.

Most Italian cars are fine. Think only some of the pre-JTD bravo/marea/brava had this issue.

put £20 of biodiesel in my punto jtd on sun, cannot tell any difference at all, there is an outlet selling it (bit likea garden centre sort of place) at 82p/litre on the A34 a couple of miles north of Huntingdon (near to Cannock). Spotted it purely by accident while going to the swamp of a car boot sale nearby. there may be a faint smell if I really boot it, otherwise I cant tell any difference at all
