I got email form a friend the other week about all the new speed cameras on the M6 and some other motorways.
They have put cameras in those black boards that light up warnings etc. they are suppose to measure the speed your travelling at over a few junctions - taking the average speed. They also check Tax and MOT. If you are caought doing over 78mph, then you will recieve some nice points;)

Also my mates dad got caught on a normal road for speeding, he didn't get any points, just an eighty quid fine and spend a afternoon at this place where he was told how naughty he was [}:)]and stuff that he could do to improve the safety of his driving. :I:D

Has anyone else heard of the motorway thing or that course you can do, i think you can only do the course if you have no points or convictions, if caught again then expect some points!

Thats what figure, my boss got done for speeding a few years ago, (points have now been lifted)and he had a good reason for speeding - life of death - you know! Anyway he got three points and contested it, because he contested it they give him another point!!!!

Also Neil and Christine hamilton gone done for speeding near me (M60 nr Rochdale) and it was on the local news because the police couldn't 'do' them for speeding because Christine said she didn't know who was driving [^]so the police couldn't do anything:D Dunno what happened in the end though[?]

I believe they got let off. They had been swapping the driving between 4-5 of them over those few weeks. I believe this was an honest problem even if very convinient! lol

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but when I recently got done, the accompanying FAQ said that this scenario is no get out, it is the registered keeper responsibility to keep records of who uses the car, and in this eventuality they would be held responsible, and may also risk being done for obstucting the enquiry.

So bearing this in mind, its not something I'd recommend;)

nor me, but they did get away with it, i distinctly remember that and it was their excuse. Maybe they very quickly changed the rules? I believe that they were asked for who was driving, said they couldn't remember so could they see the photo, the photo didn't show it properly so supposedly they got let off...?

I've heard of those courses. We av em in Leicestershire if you don't speed too badly. Take the points or do the course. Still pay 60 notes though.

Smurfhead - would trade as Gaz but bit confusing with another guy with the same car on here with the same name. lol

Don't think you can register in two names?

Paul, maybe they just got off cos of who they are? You used to be able to get away with it, I know that, but not now.

One guy (a right smug arrogant git) I know, has relatives from Norway, when his car is snapped, he says one of them was driving, and gives their details in Norway, the police never follow it up as it would be a load of hassle.

I know he has done this a couple of times, and like I said, he is a bit of a git, so I will find it amusing when he eventually get caught out[^]

Yeah, you can register a car in two names, before i passed my test i bought a punto, it was registered in my name, but they closed the test centre near me and the waiting list was really really long for a test elsewhere I didn't want my car just sat there - so i asked my dad to insure and drive it, but the insurance said they couldn't because it needed to orinally insured by the registered keeper, so i just added my dad on as a registered keeper/owner and his name was on the V5 along with mine

I've heard about this email before, and as far as I'm aware it's a 'joke'. There are two lots of fixed cameras though - one at the Manchester ship canal (SPECS at the roadworks - very well marked) and another lot at some other roadworks (also SPECS, NOT well marked at all and think I got caught there last week). Other than that a fair few GATSOs but all 'not in use' as far as I could see. Course sounds like a good idea though, nice way of getting out of points.
