$25 million prize for greenhouse gas removal

Ban people owning greenhouses and make them that have em rip em down :p

paid for by the $100000 fee he charges to send you into space for 90seconds, using a rocket that produces.......oh yeah thats right richard....didn't really think that one through did you, planet saviour indeed, my right nutsack

...There are also a few catches in the prize's fine print. The winner will initially only be give $5 million, with the remaining $20 million being paid "at the end of 10 years if the judges decide that the goals set out have been achieved". And the conditions include that the removal must have long term effects, "measured over, say, 1000 years", but gives no indication of how this will be assessed.

so in other words...your not getting the rest of it then ;)

Isn't he using rocket motors? i.e it produces water?

China producing new coal power stations at a rate of.... 1 a month i think..

they need power to support the industy that produces all the crap the rest of the world buys. so you cant blame china. without them almost all products would cost a lot more.

but more importantly, why is global warming a problem? its human nature to resist change, but that doesnt mean change is a bad thing. i say bring it on.

When I first heard this at 8am this morning I had a brain wave and I invented:

A complex organic CO2 scrubber with extensive environmental properties with unique aesthetics. It's silent running and requires very little feedstock. Water being the main feed. It uses a very traditional yet poorly understood substance that produces a green pigment. It works best in warmer summer months and can shut down during the winter. It's extremely cost effective and self-maintaining (within reason) and once beyond its life expectancy will completely recycle itself. Not only this it can reproduce itself very quickly and automatically increases in capacity with time.

Ladies and gentlemen, kind Sirs and Ladies, Sir Richard Branson, I present to you.....

A tree.

sorry trees require space, we dont have space. better luck next time (unless you can stack trees on top of each other several layers high)

although there is plenty of space on earth now i think about it. maybe you should submit your idea. it would only take 5 billion trees per continent.

"the brief is to devise a system to remove a "significant amount" of greenhouse gases – equivalent to 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide or more – every year from the atmosphere for at least a decade."

Pheeew thankfully i guessed it was a tree before scrolling down or else i'd be in trouble. lol!

The problem is that if you grew the trees some one would eventually burn them and release all the carbon back into the air.. and we need to get rid for good, totally agree trees a carbon neutral fuel, except the fuel for planting maintaining, felling, transporting, processing etc. hehe
