That time of year again...

i bet it will, but you do quickly learn to live by your means, plus you will have capital and borrowing potential to and extent (obv dont use it unless circumatsnces are that way)

your on the property ladder now, at a young age and the only way is up really, plus you could borrow enough to get the place, all i can say is hats off to u mate and good luck with it (y)

Yeah sure i'll cope, just scary having a mort for so much under my name etc :(

cinq is having last manic spending for a while atm  got to start saving for mot/insurance too as thats up june time iirc :(

Long time yeah its a good move probably, but short term im going to regret it... until i start hitting town and am within staggering distance :D then i'll love it :slayer:

Paul: £3-400 per month?!

Thought you were supposed to be skint as a student! Most expensive place I lived cost £248pcm and I thought that was extortionate!

Been looking at houses and mortgages lately...   all being well half my wages will soon be going on paying for a 3 bed semi in a not-particularly-pleasant ex-mining town near Donny... bloody house prices, bloody robbing b***ard estate agents, bloody extortionate mortgages... :bang: :bang: :bang:

House prices have gone silly though... And in turn rent.

How much would you pay for something of this spec?

Most rooms are over 4m square. 4 large Bedrooms, 2 smaller bedrooms, large dinning room, 2 living rooms, office, kitchen, utility room, bathroom, laudery room, and 2 huge cellar rooms...

a house like that in hartlepool can only be the really old houses near the town centre. turn right coming out of middleton grange shopping centre car park, go straight over at the traffic lights (now illegal but who's watching) and then you're there. they're amazingly spacious. i remember my mother's cousin used to have one. the last i heard they were worth £300k. which isnt bad but living 10 mins walk from middleton grange shopping centre isnt my idea of an ideal location.

ummmm my left arm, left leg, right leg and right arm :D

And a few internal organs if it'd help

I've got a hall, living room, kitchen, downstairs w/c, 2 bedrooms and bathroom. I want more space!!! Oh plus we got a garden and driveway too

My daughters due to start a 3 year Uni course this year so any tips you can give us Paul ?

Well if possible she should be living in halls in the first year, you miss out on a lot otherwise - well, most people say that, I personally wouldn't have done but that's because I am boring. If she's looking for a flat/house etc. though let me know and I will put down everything I can think of.

I looked and my old room in the first year (most expensive UofManc halls) and it was £86 for an ensuite room, with a large kitchen and separate dining room shared between 10 people in total. Hence 300-400 is pretty good going for a 4 room flat!

Also I am not at all poor, I don't drink or have any expensive vices (except gadgets, all of which I get value for money for), have a year in industry (£14k as a 3rd year student this year) and parents that support me quite well. Driving a car obviously doesn't help me though, but this will be the first complete year I'll have a car at uni.

In Manchester, depending on the area, it would be £50-£70 pppw, would need at least one more shower/toilet and typically one lounge and dining room would be converted into additional bedrooms...

Cheers, I'll talk to her when she gets in and ask her about "Halls". I take it that's like Dorms ?

Typically halls of residences are flats of 4-10 people, either ensuite or not, with shared facilities - kitchen, dining room (and obviously possibly toilets). They can be catered or self-catered, depending on your choice. Some are based on 'floors' and are much more open, rather than the flat system. I.e. one long open floor with rooms off each side.

Have a look on www.gumtree.com under the Manchester site and you'll find lots of flats etc to rent, you could also put up a wanted ad and see if you get any replies.

Woo, I have found the first place that ticks all my boxes, including boxes that are preference only...:)

What a hassle :( So I get the time to phone up about this place which states:

Beautifully decorated studio apartment suitable for single person or student couple. Comprises large bedroom, fitted kitchen with microwave, bathroom with electric shower, burglar alarm and hard wired smoke alarm. Must be seen! Within walking distance of the University of Manchester South Campus. Please note that retainer with access is subject to negotiation with the landlord - it may be possible to live in the property over the summer.

Has GSH, off road parking and is in the area I want to live in, perfect. BUT I phone up and the first number tells you to phone another number, then a woman phones and is "taking calls for person X" - erm, fine, so I leave my name and number and which flat I am enquiring about. She then says that she's sorting out the enquiries for this place and do I have questions, so I say:

The advert doesn't make it clear whether or not it is 3 rooms or 2? I read it as 3 but I know it may be 2.

"I don't know, it's a studio though so, well, I don't know"

Oh erm, well, *thinking to myself, if she can't answer that, there really is NO POINT whatsoever in checking specific details like summer rent and GSH*, thanks for that. Could you ask the landlord for me please? "She's very busy"

And I am left stumped, what do I say to that, I am also busy but I am looking to live somehwere?! LOL

She just called back and it is 3 rooms, but the lounge/bedroom is shared where as I would prefer kitchen/lounge shared to live in a 3 room place, oh well, I think I'd rather live close to mates than get a palace in Salford.

*breathes again*

Keep trying (y)

Its a nightmare trying to find somewhere to live, I was so lucky when I got my house to rent as I was a single parent on benefits, but hey he chose me out of 50 other interested parties!! :D

So its out there somewhere

I just checked on their website (it's all very complicated) and she's arranged a viewing for a different flat to the one I intended? I called back and she said she didn't know anything about the other more expensive flat? Well why f-ing advertise it? This is why I hate this sort of thing, people constantly lie :(

Hmmm do they know what they are actually doing? :bang:

Steer well clear, cos they be useless landlords.

Anyone know of anywhere, as word of mouth is usually quicker?
