Countries NEED a working population to pay taxes, which then go towards supporting those drawing pensions. Most western populations are in the same position and in the future could possibly reach a point where there are more pensioners than there are workers. This would be disasterous as a small working population (due to dwindling birth rates) would not be able to support a large retiree population all needing to draw their pensions.
This is why there is so much encouragement to have children and why some governments (including our own) offer incentives such as child allowances and such. The thing that worries me is that in general it seems that the only people that are taking advantage of child support incentives are Chav breeders. They are bringing illiterate, ill disciplined and ill educated monsters into the world who are growing up with dependency culture morals. In other words, we'll have the pensioners claiming for their pensions at one end and the Chav scum claiming their unemployment benefit at the other.
Great, so the Welfare state system will still collapse even if we do have a growing birth rate... :shakehead:
