Take some pics of it as soon as.

Trans, if you get the chance go back there with a ruler/ tape measure, and take pictures of the hole showing the depth. I'm fairly certain that there are strict regulations about how deep a hole can be before it becomes a council liability.

Those pics look more like the surface of moon! And the holes look like they've been there for quite some time. I think you have a very strong case against the council, so take lots and lots of pictures from every angle you can think of.

Good luck, and hope you come out ok with this. A real bummer to have your bumper wrecked after just having it painted :(

EDIT: Just re-read your post and you've already taken pictures of the hole with a tape measure - ignore what I said

If the hole is due to the contractors contact them first, they will send you a claim form and then they will take it up with the council who they are doing the work for (i used to work for Tarmac)

Cases like this come in in their dozens when works being carried out by contractors and they expect it and very rarely question it

Good Luck !!!

If you look at those pics the road has been patched at some point, the responsibility would lie with the contractors who undertook the work but you would have to approach the council first

blimey, did you climb in that hole on the 4th pic?
I went for a close up and I fell in it got all muddy and had to climb out (n)

Thanks Dobster :) I think the stretch of road belongs to BARNET. Serves them right for rejecting my appeal against a bus lane fine :p
