Listening to Radio 1 this morning I heard a few bars of music I instantly recognised.. I turned up the volume ready to bathe in the great sound of Personal Jesus - by either Soft Cell or Marilyn Manson, but no.. a washy effort by Jamelia. How disapointed was I :(

Worst part for me in bold.. It's so blatantly 'reach out and touch faith'. It doesn't match the rest of the style of the song. Reading the lyrics it doesn't even make sence.

Listen to me

Do you know how much you want it?
You're trying to be cool about it
You're trying to big about it
You're constantly just denying
You're like a moth to a flame
You hardly wane
But listen 'cos I know what I'm saying

He's trying to catch you in it
And then he'll back you in it
Cos he's just another girl addict
And if you give it away
You've gotta be crazy

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

I was damn near addicted
I got into trouble with him, I got in the bubble with him
Everything was just how he wanted
Oh but then I got wise
I got out of sight
So take me advise

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

I know you hear me
I know you hear me - I KNOW YOU HEAR ME!
Arr! Arr!

You better reach out and touch me!
(Reach out and touch me)

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

Stop!
You better shake him off
Before he gets ya
(He's coming to getcha, he's coming to getcha)
Stop!
He'll only build you up
And then he'll getcha
He's dirty to the bone - beware of the dog!

Beware of the dog...

Wasn't it depeche mode, not soft cell? And yes I know what you mean, so many songs are getting murdered.

the great thing about cover verisons is it shows their career isnt going very well. the best new tracks get sold to the performers with the best agents and the highest chance of big sales. if your guy aint getting you good tracks, or even new ones, then you have to do a cover to keep up public awareness, and thats means you're stuggling to sell records, which you deserve if you cant produce good music. justice does exist in the music industry.

i've had numerous discussions with younger people who'll swear blind that [insert random name] wrote a certain track and it is original, then i get my 70/80's tapes out and prove them wrong. its amazing how many cover versions there are and how few people even realise. robbie's rude box was a good example, my girlfrined's sister would not believe me when i said its an old song. so i had to download the original just to prove it. at least robbie rewrote most the words and made it different enough to the original to be credible, most covers are exact copies sung badly.

Not always.. 'Baby one more time' by Travis is always a crowd pleaser at gigs. True they're not big in the public eye now but at the time they started doing it they were at the height of their fame, and their original music was flowing.

when someone does a cover of something, thats better suited to the new artists style then hey go for it. and if they make the general lyrics into soething totally different then fine.

but its when they copy the lyrics, the almost exact same ryythm, and just get whatever 'upand coming' (and then back out the door!) boy/girl band to do it, it sucks, bigtime. Especially the people that pay for cd's of this nastiness.

THere are quite a few far out groups and lonely peeps with synth's that have made a few tunes and lyrics that are copied in your average pop song, and THAT does SUCK, especially when they make no reference to the original musical genius that created it(n)

Jamelia also covered "numb" by linkin park...wasn't that bad. just a bit strange.

Yeah I hate it too when I hear someone slay a classic but it does work both ways. Any of you listen to the live lounge on Radio 1?

Basically they have artists in and they have to sing one of their songs live on air and then they have to do a cover track(even though they don't release it).
The Arctic Monkeys did a cover of a girls aloud track cos thats the type of comical lads they are but it sounded dead good. Just go to the Radio 1 website and check some out.
