Side Effects:-Feeling or being sick, indigestion, tummy ache, diarrhoea, constipation, loss of appetite and weight loss or increase in appetite and weight gain, dry mouth or increase in saliva production, nervousness, anxiety (worry), headache, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), shakiness, dizziness, weakness, seeing things that aren't real, drowsiness, discharge from the nipples, sexual problems, sweating, movements of the body without control from the patient, a fast or fluttering heartbeat, coughing, yawning, confusion, difficulty concentrating, difficulty remembering things, skin rashes, muscle pain, pins and needles, problems with eyesight, problems with taste, a sore or runny nose, ringing in the ears or problems urinating (passing water).

Some of those side effects are what it is used to treat in the first place. :0

If in doubt, get a second opinion, and also my mrs recently came off some medication as it was causing symptons leading up to a stroke, and she now has accupuncture and everything seems to be under control

sexual problems
Citalopram and other SSRIs have been shown to cause sexual side effects in some patients, both males and females. Although usually reversible, these sexual side effects can sometimes last for months, years or possibly indefinitely even after the drug has been completely withdrawn. This disorder is known as Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction.

It is considered relatively safe in overdose, although fatal cases of dosages 840 mg to 1960 mg have been reported.

lol, i was on olanzapine and zopiclone at the same time a month or so ago, that stuff really made me feel strange

The list of side effects sound like the side effects of a good night out!

Citalopram can have a number of adverse effects. In clinical trials, over 10% of patients reported fatigue, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating (Hyperhidrosis), trembling, headache and/or dizziness, sleep disturbances, arrythmia, blood pressure, nausea/vomiting, heightened orgasmic latency in females, impotence and ejaculatory problems. In rare cases (around over 1% of cases), some allergic reactions, convulsions, mood changes, anxiety and confusion have been reported. Occasionally, panic attacks, thoughts of suicide or self-harm may occur or increase in the first few weeks, before the antidepressant effect starts

no thanks, i'll stick to alcohol indiced hangovers!

Helz becomes flooded by calls!

Seems if your read the leaflet in most meds these days they all have side effects just the pay off for the desired effect.

I was recently on a high dose of co codomol which makes you constipated so you need Senokot and lacolose (sp) bloody nightmare!

Most of the side effects are very rare and are listed to give the drug company legal cover- check out some websites for users of citalopram where- like here- you can find the problems most users experience.
It's relatively common for the dosage to be doubled on SSRIs, depending on the dosage you were on in the first place obviously! Loads of GPs start low and then wait a few months because of the potential for delayed side effects, so I wouldn't be too worried. :)
Anyway, hope they are having the desired effects!
