Tesco superstore

tesco is great :)

our store is having a re-fit , it going up and out. Seen the plans for it and non-food is taking up over half of it. It even gonna have a chav jewellary counter.

About the only thing I use Tescos for is cloths & stocking up on general cupboard items (cause the Barhill Tescos is huge), usually it's Waitrose (cause it's on the way to/from work) for items the local butchers and market square in Cambridge can't provide.

 i dislike tesco, only the tesco express, one opened next the grocey shop i work in and they went and stole the customers for a while. the massive tesco in the centre of town wants to expand again too.

tescos is takin over

Tesco aren't doing anything malicious like burning down the shops so people have to shop at their store. It's just a case of Tesco catering for and appealing to what people want today.
Will your opinion change maybe when they get so big that youre local greengrocer and butcher don't even exist?? Don't get me wrong, i'm not against having a convienient(sp?) place where i can get everything i need, but remember to when you were smaller you could get everything in the high street. I'm telling you, eventually the big supermarkets will take over and you'll have to buy in them.. Then where has your choice gone??

Plus have you actually used your local butchers and greengrocer, the likes of Tescos etc. can't hold a candle to them in terms of produce quality in season.

No, i have recently started using the butchers near me, discovered their steak and ale pies and i'm in love lol. Got bacon, sausages, and a lamb joint on the last visit, and your are bang on, supermarkets meat comes no where near.. And your greengrocers are ace too, veg from local farms picked almost that morning, so fresh and nice. Beat the supermarket any day.. I pledge to try use them whenever possible, problem is they are often closed by the time you finish work.

Yeah it does take a little bit of organisation, this is where supermarket win, people are too lazy to get off their butts and do something. Personally I make good use of my 2h 30min lunch to get into town and do my fruit/veg shop, I use market stalls not the greengrocers but it's the same places so just as good. As for the butchers, it closes 5:00 but as I can get home by 4:20 that's about perfect for me. But being honest, both the local butchers and greengrocers will do local deliveries in the evening for a few £ extra.

helz what about the massive tesco 24 over where the jag and lloyds landrover garage's are. They have 28 job vacancies right now, not inc christmas work:eek: , yet every shop in the NE has nothing, not till next sept!!!!:(

IN sunderland tesco's bought the huge area of brown field land where the sunderland brewery USED to be.

they've sat on it for years, screaming they want to build there.

and when push came to shove, they decided they wouldn't, but would trade the land with sunderland arc to a more out of town site where they could build what the hell they like.
As sunderland ARC want to build a new sunderland, similar to the gateshead riverside area. they've got funding in place, just been arguing with tesco's for years to get this piece of land!!!!

Did you know tesco's has OVER 130 brownfield sites around ENgland alone, just waiting for massive superstore extra 24 shed's to be built:eek:

Our neighbourhood just successfully petitioned against a new Tesco Express about 300 yds from my house. :slayer: Tesco has now given up on it.
Campaign slogan:

Majestic Wine moved to bigger premises about 50 yds from my house :woot: and Tesco tried open up in Majestic's old place.
But we've got a Tesco Extra a few minutes drive away and numerous other shops within a few minutes' walk away (not to mention all the big supermarkets within 10 minutes driving).

Supermarket meat isn't a patch on butchers' meat. Sausages from our butcher don't shed any fat when they're cooked, but supermarket sausages are swimming in fat.:yuck: Try cooking them on a barbeque and supermarket sausages get all burnt on the outside due to all the flames from the dripping fat.

At our local Tesco Extra they wheel all the food into the aisles at the start of the evening, ready for re-stocking, and leave the meat out of the chillers for hours at a time. The veg just gets thrown into the display boxes - it's no wonder it gets so bruised by the time the box is emptying.
Last time I used Tesco Express, the loaf of bread I bought turned out to be mouldy all along the bottom, even though it was well within date. I got my money back, but no hint of an apology.

All in all, I use Tesco for most food shopping, because it's convenient, but my meat comes from the butchers and I'm cautious when buying perishables from Tesco.
