Driving along *BANG* Catalicconverter fell off. Car sounds much more sporty however.

Anyway, is it safe to drive the car without it on there? I know it polutes and whatever else but will my car explode or will it do damage because honestly, I dont have any money to fix it and the car would have to live on the drive.

Thanks!

That's a good question actually... I wouldn't have thought so because it doesn't effect the engine as the gases don't flow back to the engine from the Catalytic Converter...

But please don't take my word for it!

PS.: You should post this in your relevant cars section or in "Lets Talk Fiat" as it's not really about the bodywork or upholstry! :)

From MOT test site.....

There is no necessity to have a catalytic converter on any vehicle. However, your vehicle will be MOT Tested as if it had one and it is unlikely that it will pass the emissions part of the MOT without the cat. The reason being that the engine and the catalytic converter were all part of the same integral design to meet the emission requirements when the vehicle was manufactured.

Therefore in theory a 'efficent' engine might just pass test...leave £10 in glovebox just incase!

Also, the police are well within their rights to stop you and ask to check the under of your vehicle for a catalytic converter. They also perform an emissions test roadside. They were doing this round mine not so long ago, complete with mirror trolleys on casters (n)
However if you say that you are afraid they may damage your car when revving, they give you a producer to attend an MOT station when the car is fixed. Cool huh (y)
