tut tut tut

if you must go out on a bender and then drive home please stick to class A's.

if its your first offence and you weren't excessively over the limit and you weren't driving dangerously or involved in an accident then you have a good chance of getting away with a short ban and small fine (3 months is common).

however they really dont like drink drivers these days. kiddy fiddlers can easily walk out of court, but drink drivers (especially young ones) get harsh treatment. and rightly so, its a bloody stupid thing to do.

there are some mitigating circumstances

even if your other half was giving birth on the kitchen floor there is always a taxi or ambulance, and never a good excuse. remember if you try to get away with it using an excuse it'll usually work out worse in the end.

practice saying the word "guilty"
and most importantly remember to cry and say sorry.
many magistrates have kids so try to play on their sympathy.

Sod that.. If it was an emergency I'd drive. Hazzard warning and front fog lights on, and generous amounts of the horn. I know how long it takes an ambulance to get to our house, never mind from there to the hospital. I can do the trip safely in less time than it takes to get an ambulance to my house.

If they then asked if I'd been drinking then I'd own up. If they wanted to argue that the chance of someone being injured was more important than an actual emergency then that makes them less human.

realistically the only mitigating circumstances are life/death.eg someone is bleeding to death and theres no time to await an ambulance.

even in that situation they should still prosecute you. why should the life of one bleeding man justify risking the lives of many more.

and besides, if you're bleeding there is no way you're getting in my car. do you have any idea how long i spend cleaning that interior! :D

Thats what a jury/judge would have to decide. Was the risk high of further injuries (driving through a town centre on a friday night at 9pm vs a quiet estate at 3am) justified in saving minutes on a persons injury.

Something to an extent which is done whenever a police chace takes part. Although in different circumstances.

At the end of the day if your caught drink driving your guilty, end of.
Its then up to judge and jury to decide on how to punish you

I had some non mitegating circumstances (i.e had to get home, nowhere to sleep, and not an emergancy really).
I wasn't exactly what I would call drunk, (had three pints total), but its enough to effect your driving quite harshly.

Put it this way, the police couldn't scare me anymore if they locked me up, driving even with a modest amount of alchol in you, scares the crp out of you.
Won't do it again mind!
