I have just had one of the scares of my life. I have had two proper near death experiences and this rated probably worth 50%. My Mum just asked me to go and get her a pescription and this is what happened:
Coming off the main road onto a side road i notice a guy nearly hits me going too fast into a little single lane (though bi-directional road - like a chicane really) road. I take a look, and yes, he is on his bloody mobile hence his stupid driving. A 52 reg Black Golf GTI (or at least GTI grill) and a guy wearing some awful cap, looking no older than 20! So, up to the junction (it is a very small road, maybe 35m long until you get to a little 4 way junction - all very small residential roads barely wide enough for 2 cars) I go very slowly just making sure that's the problem and hopefully pissing him off. THen, yes, you guessed it, i turned around when i had stopped, put my hand up to my ear and removed it several times as in "get off your mobile" and shook my head. I then pull away, turn to the left and look in my rear view. He had gone accross the junction and sat there. I built up speed but then he toots his horn as i am about 15 metres away. I know he knew my car, my reg plate etc. because I hadn't gone quickly Then I see him swing his car around and start coming towards me.
Yes, I nearly excreted in my trousers. There's a guy in a car 10x as powerful as mine and he is pissed at me for telling him what he is doing is not only stupid but illegal. I didnt swear at him, i didn't shout, just moved my hand up and down from my head.
The area I was in I don't know too well, it's only 2 mins from my house but it is like a maze of small roads with houses quite close and give way junctions (in all directions!) every 50metres or more. It practically makes a grid but it is all on lots of up and down hills.
So I floored my car, took the next right, next left (nearly killing myself hitting a poor old lady in a car on the other side of the road going wide - you nromally do the turns at 5 mph or less). I then take the next left etc. then back up the hill every so often noticing him just before I turn. Luckily, the next 3 turns I did very quickly and was getting quite quick down the short sections. Yes, I did speed, I know I am usually dead against it but the nearest police station was miles and some guy was chasing me.
I then got onto a main road as soon as I had lost sight of him, pulled off down some more little back roads and then drove to a place called Arnold abotu 5 mins away.
I don't know I lost him or what he wanted to do to me. I didn't fancy stopping to find out. I don't know how my poor little Uno - or my heart - lasted and now I am just pissed all I could remember was that it was a black 52 reg Golf like every other one.
Next time I make such a gesture to someone I might think about what car they are driving and what they look like first. I feel awful for having to do Playstation style get away driviing putting people at risk when the risk of him hittting someone whilst on his phone was a lot less.
Just people driving on phones doesn't mix well. When i was younger, 3 of my friends were "mowed" down by a 4x4 with a guy on his mobile who kept driving - i think his excuse was he didn't notice it. " guys had broken ribs and legs, the girl just had bad brusing etc.
So, first time a Uno outran a Golf GTI, LOL, i think so, will i do it again, no way, im sat in my house still trying to come to terms with being chased like that. - First time it has happened to me.
