WARNING:
This article does contain graphic images of one persons motorcycle crash injuries. The images are not in your-face-gory, you don't have to make the thumbnail bigger if you don't wish to. In my opinion they are necissary to tell the story.

A very brave girl explains her story.

I feel that apart from the scars she is left with on the outside, the trauma she must have gone through inside would break most people. She is a lucky one, she lived to tell the story!

Wear the correct safety equipment at all times guys!

(ps didnt see this posted)

Yes one hell of a story and its easy to be wise with hindsite, but really sport bikes are not best suited for passengers they sit above the driver out in the airstream with their knees up near their chin. A powerful story thanks for sharing it,

That is a powerful story indeed, and the message is clear. It's better to have hot skin than no skin at all, something I had drummed into me when I first got onto a bike.

Yet every summer you see some clown blissfully ignorant to what would happen if they fell off their bike while wearing nothing more than tee-shirt, shorts and trainers. I've even seen an R1 rider wearing flip flops for christ sake, which must make it a bugger to change gear to say the least!

I fell off my bikes a few times, and luckily I only suffered from scuffed leathers, bruises and a bruised ego. Ironically the worst injury I suffered was when I wasn't even riding my bike! I was working on my bike in the garage and it had the front forks suspended on axle stands with the wheel removed. I was standing beside the bike trying to undo a stubborn bolt and the bike rolled forward off the axle stands and the whole undercarriage/ chassis landed on my right foot. The bike weighed 425lbs, and you can compare that with some weighing ten stone which equals approx. 140lbs. I think I broke three toes in the process and my foot went every colour under the sun over the next six weeks. It also hurt like fcuk!

I digress. Even if it is boiling hot, wear decent motorcycle clothes when on a bike. If you can skin your knee badly if you trip whilst walking, thing how much worse it would be if you were travelling at 70mph, or even at 20mph...

when i got took out on a roundabout i had a hoodie on and didnt have a scratch on me (apart from a broken leg) even after getting knocked 20ft. i have still learnt my lesson and will not go on the road without leathers and a high vis jacket, no biker should!

sexy little minx

shouldn't take an accident like that to teach you the importance of having the right gear. i've always had full proteciton when riding. you know you risk your life every time you go for a ride, no point making it a much higher risk for the sake of a few hundred pounds worth of clothing. and besides the gear looks cool. i miss my sidi boots.

she wasn't wearing any leathers?

TBH she should have known better if she has ridden in the past.
Been on bikes a few times and even with (borrowed) leathers and a decent helmet and gloves you feel very insecure.

as said, tarmac at any speed is going to hurt.

Very lucky to get away with her life, could have landed awequadly and broken her neck or back, or could have been moan down by a car or truck immediatly behind.

yes she's lost most of her skin, but I think she'll think better of it. and maybe teach a few others the dangers.

Although TBH a lot of motorbike accidents occure BECAUSE of motorists, either getting too close or trying to knock them off as they pass you (because their stubborn or stupid or evil, I usually won't move over for them, if they want to pass they can use the other lane like their supposed to, but I never move out, only in).
when bikers passs me in a line of traffic I will always back off and give them space, so many people get irrate and tailgate them, not knowing just how unstable a bit is, even if just tapped from behind.

My uncle got hit by an old woman who couldn't see past the end of her metro's bonnet.
she hit the back of him (my aunt was behind the metro on another bike) at about 35mph coming upto this roundabout, as she 'just didn't see him' (this was the early nineties, and yes he was wearing neon yellow powerranger outfit and red helmet:D ),
he was catpulated from his bike and got lodged in the metro's windscreen.
he is now paralysed from the neck down permantly!!!!
he can still move his neck and his arms, but he can't often feel his arms (comes and goes, even 12years on:( ).

He is still riding though! built himself a trike right away, then planned over several years this monster v8 powered beauty. he got it built in 2001, with a detuned rover v8, custom gearbox, custom forks, custom mag wheels, and a carbo kevlar bodywork on an aluminum space frame with carbon floor.
Its sweet as hell, and can take two passengers.
Love to see old bidy run into the back of that thing!!!!:slayer:

She's brave, but I really think she should have been holding onto the rider or bike - not just hands pressed down on the tank

Best of luck to her though!

That is a totally unfair comment. Bikers are absolute IDIOTS. Granted there are a few that show the respect they expect to see shown by motorists but the majority get what they deserve.

A couple of months ago a family member hit a biker head on.

She is 21 and was driving down into Bridgnorth, the biker was on the wrong side of the road doing in excess of 60mph, rounded the corner still on the wrong side and hit her head on. He was decapitated and parts of his body stuck in the grill

She however, has had to have counselling and the police grilled her for hours.

The widow of said biker (who had a 5 year old son) said 'he died doing what he loved best'

Spiteful b******* didn't give a thought to his wife, son or the effects this has had Laura (family member who was driving) she still wakes up now in the night screaming

At least its over for him, she's 21 and will have to live with that for the rest of her life

must admit going on the wrong side of the road around a blind bend is fairly common with bikers, just go for a ride to whitby during the summer and you'll see it happening all day. i was doing over 100mph and i was still getting overtaken by bigger bikes going round corners on the wrong side of the road, i was just waiting for one of them to get wiped out.

although to be fair its far more common that some blind fool driving a car will pull out on you. that nearly killed me many times.

Treat bikers with respect they will treat you with respect. I often get acknowledgement when I let bikers get past me and give them lots of warning as to what I'm doing e.g. early indication. We have to look out for each other on the roads :)

This came up a few months ago, and to suggest all bikers are idiots is like saying all women make crap drivers and all 17 year olds drive like dicks. It is not true, and the accident statistics prove this. And to suggest that the 'majority' of motorcyclist accident victims 'get what they deserve' is demeaning and offensive. There is a thread with a link to the Government accident statistics that show percentages of accidents and also what was involved. You may not like it, but by far the most common motorcycle accident is caused by a CAR PULLING INTO THE PATH OF A MOTORCYCLE WHO HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY.

If you don't like bikers, fine, but please don't generalise a whole group of people...

We should all respect each other on the road whatever our form of transport.
