I'm after some information about how No Claims actually works.

Assume this for a policy: full no claims (5 years or more) and is protected. Two claims made within the same year (e.g. same policy) that were not policy holders fault at all. All monies recovered by insurance and policy holder etc. as you'd expect.

So the no claims is protected (for 1 claim a year), but being two claims would that affect the premimum on renewal date?

Now this confuses me as the way that would make more sense is that no claims only gets affected on claims that are your own fault, but seeing as motor insurance is a load of toss these days I'm not sure. And it's worrying me 'cos we pay a lot as it is.

Anyone make any sense of it all please?

Thanks,

If the claims were made through your insurance company to another company then they should have no effect on your policy.
If your insurance company had to pay out then it makes no difference whose fault it was, all they will be concerned about is that you have cost them money twice.

Hmmm... sounds promising. Thanks!

Basically, a(nother) tosser hit me from behind this morning. Second time in 6 months. First time was on the first day I passed my test (not funny) and that cleared through insurance fine. This one should too (company car driver), but it's a huge hassle and basically very demoralising :(

The key is that it doesn't affect my insurance, that's what worries me most from it all.

About 3 weeks after I passed my test last summer I was driving my mum and sister into town in the Renault Scenic I was driving whilst my Uno was getting ready for the road. THe excess was something stupid like £400. I pulled up to the traffic lights braking slowly, stopped, handbrake on, (just past test so still in that line of things), traffic moved forward so I went forward a few metres, next thing I know "THUD".

I have never been in a car accident before (thank God) and didn't have a clue what that "thud" meant. Look in my rear view and a green van is filling up the rear screen. I practically s**t myself, got out, felt like smacking the guy/crying but didn't know which, nearly got ran over on very busy road. He had pulled back. I told him I wanted to pull into a carpark coming up ahead and he followed. Was so apologetic to me and I was so glad to see a minor little bit of scratching on the rear bumper (not body coloured) and unnoticable. He gave me his details though and said if i wanted it replaced he accepted responsibility completely then said.

"I will give you some advice, (I started thinking, hang on one second, don't you give me advice, you hit me!) DON'T EVER DO WHAT I DID!"

I was so relieved he was so good about it.

What I am meaning to say is that I can understand how you feel. An insurance company might look badly if you have been involved in a couple of accidents (even if not your fault) if you're young. It is completely unfair however. I was so glad we didn't need to claim. I want to stay claim free until I stop driving when I am off to uni.

well im expecting premium to go up after my accident (not my fault)

its not so much no claims, its the fact you have to say yes to "have you been involved in any accident in the past 3 years?"

have been warned with 1 years no claims next year my insurance could be anything up to £2000 on a 1.1 sporting (currently £1350 with no no claims), purely because i've been involved in an accident that wasnt my fault [xx(]

Now written off Cinquecento Sporting,
and yes it was indeed Broom Yellow :(

Dont worry, the poppy coral lives on for another car :p
