Anyone else watch this last night?

I know its wrong but I can't help but be amused by seeing little whinnet Chav's pissed out of their skull declaring they can take on the world, and especially the 20stone bouncer who has just thrown them out.

A particular highlight for me was the stripy jumper chav who turned up pissed at the cop shop asking to be arrested:D

On a more serious note though, what was shown is horrendous, and it makes me feel better about the fact I don't go out as much as I used too;)

Also, I really feel for the likes of the guy who had taken his family out and ended up unconscious, battered over the head[:0]

I was also disgusted by the fact that these little chav's can get pissed up, generally be a menace, have a go at the police, spew in a police van, and end up being fined £10 less than I was for being 10mph over the speed limit[:0]

I am 18 and can honestly say I have never "gone out" on a friday night etc. I know, I know, i might be sad to you but I don't have a good enough friendship with my group of friends who do go out and have done since 16 and it really doesn't interest me at the moment. Am i missing out?

Watching the program last night and the previous one on Cardiff (and the one on Nottingham a while back) it doesn't exactly inspire me to go "out on the town".

I also feel like if I was a 21 year old who did want to go out I would get very pissed off by 16 year olds or less being stupid around me.

I feel very much like the odd one out to not want to do this, I am one of only 3 in my sixth form I know that doesn't! Oh well.

i didnt see the program, but shows like that do mostly highlight the bad things that happen.

But to be honest it is like that, you can go out enjoying yourself then the next get hammered round the head by a glass.

Im lucky really cause i dont get much trouble cause of my size but u do get some people having a go but I just laugh at them and they back down

Depends, since starting uni, my workload ebbs lots, so im out when I can be, but up here as its a uni city, the amount of chav's is very minimal, so its very different to being back at home, where yu can definately feel at odds with the locals;)

Paul, yes you are missing out!!!

Going out for a few drinks doesn't need to be a hedonistic, beer swigging, bashing people over the head experience;)

As the others have said, most us enjoy a good social life and see very little of this kind of antics, remember this is a TV show edited for maximum impact!

As for not having a good enough friendship with those who do go out, maybe this is exactly what you need to form those bonds.

And yep at the ripe old age of 23, I would get annoyed by 16 year old oiks, if I used the same bars as them;) Like I said, I don't out as much now, I spend more of my time in the gym know, I'm at uni and end up more often going for a meal with the girlfriend.

But I do still enjoy a good night out, and have done since I was a little younger than you, I know my limits, and although in my younger days I may have pushed them a little, I generally go out and have a good night without any adverse consequences.

I merely posted this topic as I find programs like this a real eye opener;)

In short tho, get out and enjoy yourself, or you'll regret it when your older (says the old man):D

Old?! I take your comments and note them (along with the constant "come ons" from my friends!) but I still don't see it happening yet.

I hope I don't regret it. I also agree you could be right about my friends, who knows, soon you might not stop me!

Which uni yu off to?

Its generally considered rude:D [sic] not to take advantage of good beer prices!
I can assure, yu will go out at uni, yu must escape Engineering some time, trust me!:D

I had a mate like you Paul in sixth form, one friday night we managed to get him out, and from then on you couldn't hold the lad back:D

Ah.... more engineering students! a beer is def on the must have list at the end of a week of engineering lectures;)

Yeah, I get that impression from the high number of hours compared to other courses.

I think I am off to UMIST (which will be Manchester University by next academic year) to "read" Chemical Engineering (wanted Oxford for general but I'm not good enough for the likes of them apparently, not bitter!) If not there for whatever reason I will probably stay in Nottingham. Loughborough is my other main choice but I stopped liking the idea of Loughborough.

If i went to Oxford I would have been permamently poor. For my interview I went out for lunch - got bored of the stuck up lot - and paid £3.40 for a simple bagette in a basic cafe.

Manchester is a very good student city I am lead to believe.

Why chemical engineering? Highest earning branch! [8D]

Come to Leeds. Don't know what the Uni's like but I prefer the town to Manchester

I can assure, yu will go out at uni

Where you get that notion from. I, like pst-unpronounceable have never "gone out". Been to the pub etc on the very rare occasion. I fell that i shouldn't waste my time and money watching people get drunk and making t*ts of themselves. I never drink. The main reason being, what is the point? If someone ever comes up with a good reason to i may start.

And i don't think i live an unexciting and boring life at all. I think it is a misconception that because i dont i must be boring and be as interesting as cardboard.

Im from Manchester. Hate going out to town. Its a major arse.

Manchester in my experience appears to have a chav problem and a huge one at that, the Student area, out by Rusholme and esp Didsbury's a very good night out in the city as its effectively only students!

Erm, as for degree "reading", seems a bit strange, I havent picked a textbook in ages!

Oh, beer end of week!! No, more like every couple of days...

Yeah, Manchester is a cracking night out:D Nearly went to UMIST my self! My Bro's GF does Chemical Engineering at Nottingham, another good uni, she borrowed my steam tables the other day so chemical engineering must be proper engineering after all:D:D:D

Just to plug my own uni, have you considered Durham? The course there is General (or unified) engineering, specialising in years 3 & 4 (for Meng), a good move to keep your options open, and make as informed a choice as poss about your future!

It does have the 'stuck up lot' too tho I'm afraid, or Rah's as we call them.

Loughborough is another good engineering uni, but is in the middle of nowhere:(

I'd def consider Durham tho if I were you, you get the college thing like with Oxford & Cambridge and you get to put Dunelm after your name (assuming you pass!)

One thing is for sure, wherever you go, expect to have the biggest workload of all your mates, my bro does medecine and does less than me, well up to now anyway, things will get heavy for him in his 3rd year:(

Sorry to ramble!

Not rambling.

Loughborough can basically boast it has good sports facilities (which uni doesn't?!) and more bars per square metre than anywhere else. Both of which don't really bother me.

It's funny really, Durham is a place I never really put much emphasis on. I wanted Oxford a lot, have the grades, extra reading etc. but they made it impossible for me in the interview. I basically decided against Durham opposing the idea of going so far from home. Home is important to me and it put me off. Loughborough was going to be my main choice until the interview. I had been there a couple of times before but the interview was a joke (I don't boast too much so this is quite out of character and not a lie) but the professor said to me "Why the hell would you want to come here?". It also feels like a big school for lots of alcholics! (Sorry if I often loughborough's students on here :S)

Best thing about UMIST? I can do a 4 year Meng WITH a year out in industry which is the only one in the country! Only problem is you have to do well throughout and do some distance learning. Not a problem with me. Chem Eng students I am told will be very important and earn the most because they have a very varied knowledge and hence are often the team leader type people. Maybe they just say that to make you want it?

If i stay in NOttingham I have been offered a sizable scholarship but everyone is pushing me to move away. The Nottingham course is asking for higher grades but has a lower ranked course.

In terms of the hard word, I am at the stage in my life where learning is getting tedious. I hope this wears off at University if not there's not a lot I can do unles I start to enjoy media studies or something lol.

GeX - I am not the only one then! Wow!

Now I am the one who is rambling the length must be a pointer to as the fact I am bored of doing my 20th second order differential question!

Basically, if you get an Meng from a proper uni you will be set, no matter which uni or discipline;)

If your feeling a little sick, why not do a year in industry? The experience will really help you out when it comes to getting a job at the end of the day.

I'm lucky really, in that I worked for 3years prior to uni, so can get work easily, I have had good summer work all the way through and in my 3rd year I am now sponsored and have a position for when I graduate (hence how I can afford my car;)).

I can really appreciate the staying close to home thing, I was originally going to Leeds (it is an ace City Sie), but the idea of have my Girlfirend, family and friends of many years close by, combined with the attraction of a unified degree persuaded me to go to Durham. I have since moved home and now commute to uni, I'll admit I'm not really a proper student:D

But Durham ain't honestly that far from Nottingham, come and have a look round the dept, you might like it!

I know what you mean about being put off by a place being offered too easily, I was completely put off by Liverpool who basically said they'd have me if I completed my ONC (thats right, I didn't do A-levels!).

Oh and Gex, I don't reckon your boring, you don't want to drink, your choice;)

Interesting that you mention YIN (year in industry) I originally was going to go into it but then I for some reason didn't follow it. Sent off the information again 6 months a go before I was weighed down by exams and out of sheer coincidence it all arrived today 6 months on. I was mainly scared i wouldn't go to uni once I started work.

It's too late for me to change my mind now really. Didn't apply for Durham and should be happy in UMIST I hope. YIN might be something I missed out on but...grrr... it's got me thinking now!

I was starting to wonder how you could afford such a nice car! Forgive my lack of knowledge but what is a ONC? If i stay in Nottingham I can keep my car but....aghh! I can't believe I have to make these choices in the next few months!

With regards to Leeds I didn't even give it a though, reason; my whole school seems to have it as their first choice.

UMIST offered me a place nicely and everything without questions, we just chatted about protected nuclear buildings and my views of wind turbines whilst we passed the time, he was a very unusual man! Nottingham offered without interview but Loughborough just went too far and it made me feel really uncomfortable. It boosted my confidence no end but I expected better from a good university rather than begging.
