I drove past an accident site the other day, 3 miles down the road i get pulled over.

No reason.

They 'caution' me on having an 'overly loud' car. and 'illigal' sidelights which must be rectified within 7 days and an 'MOT' stamp as proof.

F%&kers!(n)

As far as im aware, there isnt actually a law that says you cant have a loud exhaust. as long as it has a silencer and a cat on it it is completly legal.

As for side lights, depends what youve got. if they are a different colour then they are illegal. especialy blue/red due to blue making you look like a police car which is illegal anyway and red because its illegal to put any red light on the front of your car due to making it look like the back.

They cant make you do an MOT to prove its roadworthyness. they can as you to get a garage to check it over/sort it out and then sign stuff which you need to produce at a police station.

I had this once when my rear brake lights were being funny. I got a producer and a garage had to sort the problem and then they sent off some signed forms (which they already had) to the address the police gave me. producing a brand new MOT cert is noncence.

Construction and Use Regs, Regulation 54 provides that:

Every vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine shall be fitted with an exhaust system including a silencer suitable and sufficient for reducing as far as may be reasonable the noise caused by the escape of exhaust gases from the engine.

No person shall use, cause or permit to be used, a vehicle on a road if exhaust gases from the engine escapes into the atmosphere without first passing through the silencer, etc.

The silencer etc. shall at all times when the vehicle is used on a road be maintained in good and efficient working order and shall not have been altered in any way which makes the noise of escaping gases greater.

Regulation 97 provides that:

No motor vehicle shall be used on a road in such a manner as to cause any excessive noise which could have been avoided by the exercise of reasonable care by the driver.

this would allow for the issue of a VDRS (vehicle defect rectification scheme) ticket, the mot stamp is not for a full mot, simply that a tester will check the relevant offending part has been sorted out to an acceptable standard, and now conforms to regs.

and george, if they really wanted to be f***ers as you so eloquently put it after ....3 posts on the forum, they could have PG9'd your car, and you'd be walking home.

you remind me of my brother when you do that :D makes me smile.

but as chris said about colours of lights, if you have red/blue ect then your at fault because when purchased small print says " *for off road and show use only "

so jai, does this mean that when i get a full 3" bore system from the turbo back with just one free flowing silencer then this wont be road legal? im asking your opinion as u drive a uno turbo and u know how important it is to get them gases out quickly ;)

also, does this mean then if u have an after market exhaust and u boot it and its obviously louder then if u set off slowly, then thats actually illegal? even tho ur not breaking the speed limit? please tell me it isnt, as we are getting a little silly with the ammount of rules on the road lol

rule of thumb, acting like a knob, drawing attention to yourself, it's inevitable you're gonna get pulled.

for instance, giving it a full bore blat past, something obviously not right then its a good chance you're going to be having words,

as for the technicalities of the exhaust, a vehicle inspector/traffic unit would be better placed to advise definitively

the flip side, which i forgot to mention to george was, you are quite entitled to ask what the problem is, and i would dearly love to see you call them f*&%kers to their face, rather than from behind the safety of your keyboard....

No reason......other than illegal side lights and an overly loud exhaust.....apparently.

oh yeah, i can deffo see why giving it full beans past somewhere where u shouldnt can get u pulled. or booting it in 1st round housing estates causing excessive noise etc. but what about pulling onto the motorway at full chat in 3rd?

Razor Blue sidelights.
No blue lighting allowed on any vehicle, other than emergency services, I believe.
Especially not on washer jets

From a MOT testers point of view - a car exhaust is classed as excessively loud when compared to an identical car ie 2x uno turbo's side by side.

If the car passes the MOT this does not mean it is Roadlegal.

Been there done that.. and dont really need the attention from them atm so i didnt.

No wonder you're getting attention from them. If I were you I'd stay quiet and out of trouble and do everything by the book for a bit :)

Can't understand why you complaining, you should feel lucky they didn't give you a fine for the lights rather than letting you fix them. You knew they were illegal and still put them on the car for whatever reason.

I would be pleased they didn't give me a hard time, especially as you have no defence.
