Anyone had any experience with the Electro-Magnetic Strip parking sensors such as this one, over the standard ultrasonic round sensors you drill into the bumper?

Thinking of getting one as I won't have to drill the bumper but wondered if any of you know if they are any good - the site says they are but who knows :D

Cheers, Oz

Was going to say 'whats wrong with the older fashioned method of looking out the back window' but then I realised you had a doblo!

Parking sensors for vans and trucks only. Anyone who needs them on their car to reverse shouldn't be driving.

Couldnt agree more:bang:

I can't see bugger all out the back window cause it's so high up from the ground :p

Oh and it's not that cheap, you can Pick up a Cobra ultrasonic system (same people that do alarms etc) for £90.00!

I feel sorry for lorry drivers. I reverse the Marea and its quite an effort as the back end is sooo far away! Wierdest moment was reversing the marea with the tailgate (top and bottom) open. I suggest any marea weekend owner to try it - its surreal to be reversing and to see the open road 'ahead' of you.

Well I fitted the kit this morning, very easy to install, total installation time was about 45min (although it took me a little longer as I had to pop down to B&Q to get some black gaffer tape).

Works a treat too, has adjustable sensitivity, and is very very sensitive! A very thin - about 2cm tall - strip that sticks on behind the bumper, you then mount a small black box up inside the boot or on the back bumper (it's waterproof) and then connect power to reverse light lead, negative to the body and run the speaker up into the boot so you can hear it.

Very accurate too, even picks up high curbs, animals etc :)

So if you're looking for a kit that doesn't involve you drilling your bumper and is a lot cheaper, go for this one! Do note though that it's supposed to be mounted away from any metal, but when I phoned up the helpline they said to cover up the metal crash bar behind the plastic bumper with BLACK only gaffa tape and then cover the thin strip with BLACK only gaffa tape too. This worked fine for me, so don't worry if you have any metal there too!

Hi

Parking sensors are good but cameras better.
Hellcat it has nothing to do with your driving ability.
If Hamilton cannot see he cannot see it is simple.
One scrape and a camera or parking sensors have paid for it.

And yes before anyone says anything I do sell them you dont have to get them from me but cameras are the way forward.

Many thanks

Paul

Cheers for the pitch and for resurrecting a 2 yr old thread in which the OP has since sold up

To be fair, I can drive anything that's allowed on the road and although I have been using cameras for a few year on the big stuff, I've never really needed them on carts - until recently.
A lot of modern cars have narrow rear windows & high rear ends, often with lots of overhang on the bumper - although this still isn't a problem (once you learn to judge the distance) the parking camera gives you much more manouvrability.
I also own a dobbin & found reversing quite easy with the big mirrors etc BUT, with the addition of a towbar ...
Having a camera hidden just above my numberplate allows me to reverse into a space & get within a fraction of an inch from the car behind - the sensors are fine down to 12".
As I keep reminding the OH, that extra 11" can make all the difference.

Added to this, it is sooooo funny to watch the look on their faces as they see you reversing towards their car - and you don't look as though you will be stopping:devil:

:D

I'll be honest and sometimes have trouble reversing my Grande punto when i have the rear cycle carrier on as the lighting board/ bikes obscures most rear vision and i don't want to wreck my/ mates bikes couple this with the chances in a FC park on a bank holiday weekend when parents think its fine to let the kids run about the car park as if its a playground and people lay their bikes behind your car as your reversing......

the camera sounds a good idea.

I hate when people do that so I can't get my shopping in the boot without moving the car :bang: Hope you bear that in mind when parking close to stuff :)

its worse when you get a knobhead in front and another behind.....then the only way to get out is to make sure you damage both cars for being inconsiderate [email protected] used to love the black plastic bumpers on my old S...

I'd like to add this treatment was reserved for days when my options for getting out of a parking space were as follows,
A: Wait for other car owners to come back so I can leave
B: Hire a forklift
C: reverse gently into car behind then push it to allow me enough room to swing the front slightly

To add my twopenn'orth to the above posts. The camera allows me greater manouvrebility when parking, I never use it to pin somerone in and because the doblo has a huge tailgate, I need all the room I can get to put anything in there. The closeness is purely to make parking easier & quicker.

That said, if some dipstick insists on parking one car in space allocated for two car lengths then I will park my car so the towbar is a fraction away from their numberplate - inconsiderate parking is a real pet hate, I can't see any need for it, especially when spaces are marked out (as they are in the town centre).
Also the same in supermarkets, I hate people who take up space of two car widths.
