Got a constantly building urge to race the Tipo. Do I...

a) Leave the car as-is and drive it to track days?
b) Gut it, roll cage and bucket seats and drive it to track days?
c) Do a Sedicirich, and actually try my hand at motorsport?

I understand that it's a reasonably rare car, but there are still a number of good examples of original cars about. I don't fancy it just sitting in a garage, picking up dust. It's too expencive to run as a road car - especially when I've got a comfy diesel for that. Opinions people?
 
Get the brakes / suspension sorted then fit a rollcage then track it.

If its standard your brakes wont last 10 minutes being worked on track thats a fact. My C4 ones fade after a little bit and I have to say there some of the best brakes I have ever seen fitted to a standard road car.

need new pads disk lines and fluid the calipers should be ok but wont be up to the abuse in general if your serious about it neither will the suspension unless its on some decent kit this is generally speaking. Why i have no tracked my C4 yet because its not up to the task in my eyes. Not for me to drive it properly.
 
rob, strip it coilovers cage it, big breaks. then dive to trackdays (y)

try tarox. they might do a 4/6 pot conversion for just over a K

you gotta try a couple of track days before you try motorsport, cause if you dont get on with it then its a lot of moneywasted

or use it for a toy,meaning weekend thrashes,santa pod and trackdays
 
Done one track day - loved it. Just wondering if the Tipo is the car to take me on that journey. They come with quite decent brakes to begin with but I've got vented discs at the front to help with fade. Going any larger with the brakes and I'll need the coupe wheels.. Could go for 20vt coupe brakes.

Suspension is stiffened and lowered. Seems quite decent currently. Can't drive it hard enough on public roads to reveal any weaknesses.
 
Leave it as is and buy a years pass for the Nurburgring. :devil:

Let me try and help, I have done some motorsport and know exactly what your going through as I was thinking this too.

Firstly let me be frank, you talk about the Tipo being expensive to run so I recon this will rule out option 3 anyway as that is very expensive. The cost of entry fees, tyres, fuel, time, etc etc actually adds up to almost as much as the building a pucka car if you are going to try a complete season. Your talking 10K.

Option 1 and 2 are not real motorsport but are fun. Either option is ok, one makes you car more uncomfortable and worth less than the other - I'll let you guess which it is.

BUT, there is another option. You can still do motorsport and keep the car standard at an affordable price. That way if you don't like it you've not waisted too much time and money. Simply go Hill Climbing or Sprinting, you don't have to do much modifications other than removing the seats for some weight saving - interior pannels must stay on etc.

If you it the motorsport bug after that you will now have a good idea of what it required and how much it will cost. The people you meet at the events can also share first hand experience of other types of events. Go on ......have a go I dare you
