Is it me or do the emergency services think every one is a hoax caller ?

Last Nite whilst supping some cans at the skate park on devvy green in sheffield me and my friend administered first aid to a bmx'er who had a really serious accident on one of the fun boxes .
Whilst trying to get a ambulance to us quickly due to the kid having a fit i was asked to recite my mobile number to the operator at least twice this is after she told me my number
I know they need to find out if it is real emergency but come on this kid could have died there in front of use .
Then when i spotted a paramedic car and asked the blokr to come and ook the kid he didnt seem really intrested HELLO its your bloody job :bang: if you dont like it get out

I went through a rough patch a few years ago whilst living in sheffield I owe my life to the ambulance and police - but yes they took forever to end the call and send someone! :(

For 999 calls I've noticed this

The first time I ever had to call 999 was when me and a friend was waling and some old guy fell out a wheel chair, smashed his head on the wall and it started bleeding shed loads, this was before everyone owned a mobile so we used a phone box, the woman on the end also thought it was a hoax. The Ambulance took ages, by the time it came the old man dragged himself away and was missing.

The second time was when the flat next door blew up.... they Fire Brigade came straight away.

The third time was when my mum collasped, to make sure they came quick this time I said it was a heart attack, The Ambulance arrived in under 3 minutes, but the paramedic seemed a bit disappointed it wasn't a heart attack.

The fourth time was when I suspected someone Joy Ryding a Steem Roller on a friday night, I was asked questions such as:

"Why do you think its stolen?"
Erm because hes not wearing Hi Vis, All the other machinary is parked, he was shouting and a waving and no road works are currently in progress.

"Which direction is it headed?"
I spotted him on a roundabout so he is heading either North, East, South or West

Then they took my name... I don't know what happened with the case of the Joyriding SteamRoller, but if it sounds really serious, or a fine can be dished the emrgency services will be there in a jiffy.

guys, when you call 999 and they have your address and basic info (for ambulance whether concious breathing etc as the ambulance type carieswith kit they have) one is dispatched, whilst its en route they will continue to ask questions.
the police certainly in my force, when a 999 call comes in (lets say, violent domestic) we want to know whats happening and where *units dispatched* controller will then call the person and find out more info - is there a weapon? whats he/she doing now etc etc, the more info the emergency services have prior to arrival the better.

Dont worry if you are kept on the phone ages, it has been dispatched!
Also dont forget in an emergency when your panicking, time seems to take forever!

Apart from one or two rotten apple police officers the emergancy services do a cracking job.

If the call centers sound suspicious, it is because the volume of crank calls is so high. That is before you get to the calls where services are baited to an industrial estate to get beaten up or bottles thrown at them by moronic kids*.

* which I think if you do that, you forgo all rights to NHS treatment, social support and should be whipped through the streets.

Slower response times are a fact, while they check your call out. I would guess they are more suspicious of calls coming from a sk8 park...

I hope so

emergency services 9/10 calls are hoaxers i work with people who used to work at a 999 call centre, they get calls asking for taxi's, calls asking for directions and on top of that the "classic" hoaxers, forgive them for being analitical but its not their call they're just following procedure, same with any call centre workers when they're being :tosser: 's they're just following procedure which if they didnt follow they would be out of a job
