Golf GtTDI vs....

Golf GtTDI vs....

I think there is some truth in that. Thing is. Torque, Bhp this that it means nuthing without the proper setup. For instance, i have 371nm of torque but only 264 bhp. Now on the road i think i would keep up with most things because of the pull of the car. But that bhp figure would suggest i couldnt. U just need to get in my car to know that its not bhp what counts. Its how ur can translates that to the wheels via the transmission and setup.

As pinin said the gt-tdi is a family saloon. Its quick but the r32 would get spanked off a coupe aswell so how fast is the diesel in reality.

In reality you don't compare TDIs to R32s and tuned Coupes  The R32 is a boiling hot, hot hatch with the 147 GTA, Focus ASBO, S3 etc....A tuned and modded TDI, I think, will compete with Clio 182s, Seat Leon Cupra 180s, Golf GTIs, CTRs (maybe :p).

Tuned coupes are in there with the m3's and porsche boxters and s2000's and rx7's.

Ross

All of which are rwd and would no doubt leave the Coupe standing off the line..?? :p and round the twisties. I would have thought the Coupe was more.....dunno C70 T5/other similiar power, front wheel drive turbo'd cars. But like you say its how theyre tuned and how they put the power down on the road which makes the difference. Front wheel drive is always going to be a disadvantage with high power turbo'd cars.

In all honesty, how many times do u race from the lights? And after 40mph i have no problem getting the power down what so ever. U would need to come out in the coupe to experience it. And it does handle well. FWD isnt that bad.

Ross

You cheeky bastid don't ever compare the coupe to a C70/T5 barge! I think all that diesel has gone to your head! Ross to be hones the coupe is not up there with the RX7 or anywhere near the handling of a porsche boxster (although it can match/beat the 0-60 time)
Yes you do reach a platform with a high power FWD car but look at cars such as the Focus RS - a FWD car that lapped the TG track faster than a WRX. With a good suspension set up and the right tyres etc and a good diff you can have a blistering scrabbler.
The coupe is all about being a fast grand tourer as opposed to track day beast. However don't underestimate it for being FWD as you'll get a shock (the 200SX boys did when we creamed them first time around ;) )

Why aint it up there with the rx-7??? There is minimum amounts between power and 0-60!!!! Rx-7 0-60 is like 5.1 with 280bhp! Im hoping for over 300 in a few weeks and by spring 340+ with headwork from Barbz!

Ross

Because Ross the RX-7 has a brilliant Rear wheel drive chassis, the coupe is FWD. that's the main diff. You can have as much power as you want in the coupe but the Rex is still going to cream the coupe round a track as the handling will be so much better.

Lmao :D The Volvos only 0.2secs off the Coupe's 0-60 time!

But yeah, if you want to prove how fast the Coupes are please visit Lancashire and show me :worship: (y)

Yes but the 0-60 is not the be all and end all.

one is a massive, heavy big BHP estate that whilst fast is not the easiest to Tame around a corner.

The other is a Tipo based coupe that was at the time (and still is) one of the finest FWD cars out.

They are completely different cars with different prerogatives.

Dude.... im not talkin around a track. Im talking day to day. I dont think i have raced anyone in the coupe cept on a dual carriageway or motorway. So i personally wouldnt take handling into that much of the equation... also..... what is the power of the rx-7 and from what year to what year? Cause some state 237 and some 280..... ?

Ross

I'm no expert but from what I can remember the UK models which are rare on our roads, are 237. The import models are 280BHP and 0-60 is in the early fives. However a simple air filter and exhaust which almost every RX-7 have takes it to just under the 300BHP mark. A standard coupe has no chance against a standard Rx-7.
Although I have admittedly never driven them they are supposed to be really nimble with a great gearchange. Nice motors but they do need an engine rebuild every few thousand odd miles at 2K a pop  and also usually you get single figure MPG from them.

Btw the C70 is a coupe- not the V70/850, which is an estate ;) But I do agree that it is a bit of a barge compared to the Coop.

So you're not gonna come and show me Coupe power then..?? :(

He meant REAL power Pinin!! Just messin dude! Ur torque figure is unreal!!!

Ross

To be honest Ross I think you can take that torque figure with a pinch of salt. I'm on the standard turbo for one thing! But I did ask him repeatedly and the tester swore that was my torque figure.

not taking the **** but are u sure that wasnt the nm figure? And that graph shows that ur torque didnt get near 300. Looks like 260-270??

Hmmm!:chin: I think you'd find it quite hard to keep up with a T5 whether in estate form or not. There are also different variants like the 850R & V70R which would completely anihilate a coupe both in the bends & in a straight line.
