Golf GtTDI vs....

Exactly. Although some traction control systems are clever enough to deliver maximum power with traction control engaged. The golf aint one of them i dont think.

Against my 300bhp coupe? haha. Hmmm. I know torque is a big influence but would need to see it to believe im afraid... :D

Not tested. Only completed the mods on tuesday. Need to fix it then try an get some money together to get it RR'd.

I still cant believe you're even asking what would win out of a 300bhp Coupe and a 1.9 TDI....family car! Yeah the TDIs are quick, standard they're faster than the average car you meet on roads and remapped, with suspension mods theyre in hot hatch territory. But 300bhp Coupes? I dont think so. Maybe in a rolling start situation the tuned TDI would be ahead slightly, say in third with the throttle planted. But then it would be time for the next gear- when the petrol keeps going all the way to the redline and past the TDI!!!

300bhp is ALOT to put through the front wheels though, doesn't it struggle to get it all down? Even mine does in 2nd and 3rd when its wet!

My brother has a MK4 GT-TDi 150, let me tell you, it goes like fvck. It also handles now as he's fitted an Eibach suspension kit. The torque of this thing has to be experienced, it's rediculous. The various "chips" available for them increase power to the 200hp mark, but it's the torque that does it - around 320lb/ft.

My brother is quite into the Golf scene and there are a few stories of these tuned TDI motors giving some "hot" motors a run for there money.

I'd like to see that Golf of your brothers. Sounds sweet. You said it yourself tho.

I dont doubt they would be quick but they definately aint giant killers.

But that depends whether you count the Coupe as a Giant or not. In a straight line, it's fast. Round the Nurburgring, although I did have massive brake fade, I couldn't keep up with my mate's Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.8 8v.

320lb/ft? You sure ? Thats like over 400nm of torque? I got my car RR'd today and the bhp was low but the torque was 370nm and thats 278 lb/ft. Going back in 2 weeks hopefully to get that magic 300! :D

You been taking lessons in Subtlety again? :D

Yeah :D i had the misfortune of driving a 2.2 Vectra turbo deisel recently it was utter rubbish, i just hate the small rev band, and lack of puff at the higher ends of the rev range, and they may produce loads of torque, but in such a small rev range its makes for a crapola driving experience.

Also driven a Golf Mk4 GTTDi and a 306 turbo deisel, both were horrible compared to petrol counterparts which were 1.8T golf and 306 GTi6 which i have driven.

Some may be fast in a stright line but you seen how heavy the diesel engines are, stick that out front of a FWD car and then watch in amazement as it understeers its way round corners, then you try and put the torque down and it gets lost as the tyres loose traction on the exit so you hold off for longer.
