I've just tried to up load a picture to appear below my name in the wee box on the left of every post I make. I'm making this post to see if I've succeeded. It's a picture I find quite amusing. It's the last fuel pump in line at the refueling point at Budds Creek drag strip in Southern Maryland where I've spent quite a number of happy hours over the years watching drag racing. So there's a selection of petrols and then there's this - Methanol, straight from the pump. Imagine the havoc if there was one of these at your local Tesco/Morrisons/where ever!

Mrs Jock might be seen leaving the car park like this after a miss fuel:

Hello Jock, just stumbled on this post - love the picture!

Hopefully this might help you set a picture to appear below your username.

This picture is referred to as your 'avatar' on this forum, and is separate from your profile picture.

Following the images below will I hope guide you to the right place:

avatar 01.jpgavatar 02.jpgavatar 03.jpg
  • On the drop-down menu on your username, select 'User CP' (Control Panel)
  • Then under 'Settings & Options' select 'Edit Avatar'
  • In Edit Avatar, select 'Browse...' to add the chosen image.
The avatar image has to be a maximum of 80 by 80 pixels (or max. 19.5 KB) or it won't load.

As Charlie says, this is so tiny that the details won't show on the photo you've shown here, so you might want to choose an alternative with a simple clear image.

Good luck, hope this helps:)

That's very helpful thanks - think I understand now. I'd been thinking of using this picture:

which shows my beloved old "Felicity" Panda Parade. We were together for the best part of 20 years and I miss her greatly. In the background is "Toany" my old Cordoba Vario, owned him for nearly 20 years too - concurrent with Felicity - and miss him almost as much. However I don't think it'll work because the file size is 1 plus MB? Trouble is my camera seems to take pics with these large file sizes so not too sure what to do about it?

Just to whet your appetite for drag racing a little more here are a few more of the images from that day at Budds Creek:

The second image is the strip owner himself getting stuck in with his "flame gun" melting off the largest bits of rubber which were adhering to the strip surface! Watching them preparing the surface with traction compound etc is all very interesting - it can be so sticky that it'll take the trainers right off your feet!

Hi, I use Paint on Windows to resize the image:
avatar 04.jpgavatar 05.jpg

  • Select 'Resize'
  • Click 'Pixels' in the pop-up window and enter 80 for the highest value.
  • Then 'Save as' with a new name to make sure you don't overwrite your original photo with this new dinky version:)
A bit old-fashioned maybe, but it works for me. Good to see Felicity, she's a fine colour!

Thanks for that - didn't even know that program was in my laptop! I'll give it a go later today.
I liked Felicity's colour too. I'd have called it purple but the log book called it Blue. It was metallic so more difficult to touch in.

D'oh! I've just realised that was probably one of those things that would have been easier to do than explain! So here's Felicity reduced to 80x60 pixels:

Windows seem to be hiding a lot of the useful old features, but they're often lurking on there somewhere.

If you usually use a tablet / smartphone then resizing images isn't so easy (despite all the various useless things my phone suggests I might want to do with my photos:confused:), I think you'd have to install a new application to carry out this function.

Right-click and select 'Save image as...' on this picture:

Otherwise time to employ the services of an 11 year-old:p
No eleven year old immediately available so had to do it myself! Couldn't have done it without your help though. Thank you so very much!

With hindsight probably my six year old grand daughter could have done it having watched her searching for Fairies videos on my laptop!

Thanks again for all your help - all this "tech" stuff just makes me feel so old and ineffective.

Looks good I think! Fair play to you for persevering with it - my old boy gave up at the register stage of a forum, decided that was too much for him. I'm sure your grand daughter would be most impressed!
Thanks for that, I do try hard to keep up as best I can!

Have to say I really like your white wheels. With everyone and his brother fitting fancy alloys it looks really different and great! Becky's wheels (steel) are rather rusty and moth eaten and I've been thinking of de-rusting and painting them. Maybe with her being white with black door handles etc black wheels would look good - especially perhaps with some little chromed or SS hub nut cover type hub caps? Thanks for making me think of trying that.

If you have any power coating place around you'd probably get steel wheels blasted and coated cheeply only paid £40 each for my alloy's and that included repair or curb marks

Why thank you! I agree, black steels on your white Panda would look great. I did think about doing mine in black, but couldn't resist the temptation to contrast my blue with white. They're a nuisance to keep clean though, so I still sometimes think black would have been better after all...

I've also been thinking about adding wheel centre hub caps to make it smarter - there was a recent thread by DaveMcT and Testacorsa about this here with different options.

My plan is to paint the steel wheels in "stainless" silver/grey. My wife says the hub centres have arrived, but I'm away from home this week. Hopefully some fettling and the Fiat badge stickers will make them look right.

I look forward to seeing the finished article if you'd be good enough to share:)

Right now they are plain black with rusty bolts and no trims so it looks like a van. The trims and bolt covers will help but paint will have to wait for better weather so the finished product wont happen for a few weeks at least.
