This is another case of modern technology beating me...

My son was after an MP3 player for Christmas, so I bought one from Argos recently. It's this one, a 512mb player and I got a 128mb player free which will do me. :p

I was seeing if it was working last night and I'm having problems with it. It says that it plays WMA files as well as MP3 files. When I put a CD into the PC and drag the songs using internet explorer from the CD to the MP3 player the MP3 player doesn't recognise the files.

When I access the MP3 disc on the PC it shows that the files are on it, but when I go to play them the MP3 player says "no files". I'm baffled.

I went to www.downloads.com and downloaded a song to my desktop which is also in Windows Media Player format and the MP3 players plays it with no problems...

HELP! :(

Did you use Windows media player to convert them?

If yeah there is an option in:

Tools
Options
Rip music Tab
Then check to see if the "copy protect music" box is ticked...

Yeah they are...

So the CD was a load of already converted WMA's?

If you click on the properties for the track via explorer you should be able to see there if they are protected tracks or not...

Cheers Jamie. When I opened the CD using explorer they were showing as WMA files. I didn't check to see if they were copyright protected though. I'll check that tonight. :)

Yeah that's the thing it's most likely to be we used to get loads of returns for things like that :bang:

That sucks. So I can't just copy CDs onto the MP3 player then? Pish...

Nope you'll just end up with like 16kb tracks that wont play :)

Doesn't take long to do a CD and WMP is plenty good enough as you can select quality etc... I go for 192kb's btw ;)

Hi Steve,

Bit late but the files have to be in a particular folder with some MP3 players and also the WMA kind only accept one form of WMA's i.e. ax bitrate and size, might have something in the instructions on it.
