now with the recent snow here in edinburgh it raised an interesting problem for me.
i cant see the speed bumps on some of the side streets i drive on. these are cobbled roads with those 'dragons teeth' type speed bumps with the gaps in between them.
now the only way i can get the turbo cinq over these is to go over the gap as its too low to go over the bumps even at a crawl it grinds horribly.

now im wondering if iwas to catch my exhaust on one of these humps through not being able too see them could the council be liable?theres no markings visible with the snow and IIRC no signs on entering the roads to say there are speed reducing measures as i have seen on some.

not something i intend on testing but since my car is road legal as far as the law stands re ride height etc then surely if i damage my car going over the humps at less than the speed limit then the hump would be deemed to be the cause of the damage?

come on then armchair lawyers:worship: (y)

i've no idea, but with regards to them speed bumps with gaps in them. Most cars on the road can drive over them without the wheels actually hitting the bump. You don't need to slow down. BUT then something like a cinq, or any other small car is going to hit the bump - then of course if the car is lowered, its going to smash the sump/arb/floor pan/exhaust.

Whats the point in a speed bump that won't phase 99% of cars on the road?

agreed.the other day i saw a big new audi flying down that very road. its about 500 yards long to a junction at the bottom and he must have been doing 40+ easy!
edinburgh's traffic model seems to be add speed bumps, road narrowing etc, shut down roads or ban just cars. then say we have terrible congestion so we need to bring in congestion charging and a grossly expensive tram system in a city that removed its tram system in the 50/60's for the 'better' bus system  :bang:

This always makes me laugh, they want people to stop using big barge 4x4s etc and want them to use little eco friendly cars... then put people off using small cars as if they do they'll jar their spines on speed bumps the big barge cars think "oh that was a big stick" to

It's all to do with how high off the ground the highest part of the speed bump is. As long as it is within a certain restriction then you can't claim... I thinks it's maybe 3 or 4 inches. I had one measured outside my house and the council refused to remove the bump even though it was causing damage to the car.

What they failed to understand though, was that the road was like a ^ shape so the bump is higher in the middle if you go over it centrally.
So I have to go up onto a slight kerb to be able to go over the bump without damaging my car, thankfully the kerb is low enough not to cause damage to my wheels. Bloody council, they are so thoughtless.

anitehr prob with winter happend to me about year ago was driving to work normal route and snow everywere not a problem i thought :D

came to a raised junction that is huge and made of bricks well soon as me front wheels touched it they spun i couldnt get over i took run ups but dint work, guy behind was pissed so i waved hi on buy he pulled out to side touched junction same thing, luckily a load of locals sore us came out with bucket of sdsand put under wheels and pushed us. once all four wheels were up onto juntction i managed to keep momentum going by keeping wheels spinning at about 40mph lol untill we cmae to normal tarmac again other side. that junction is adeath trap in ice, yet its raised oe for safety so people slow go figure
