Sat nav diversions

On our commute last night.

Was rolling along M4 with a Dutch camper.

Downhill they went past us.. on the level they held is up..
So we went past again.. x5..

one of those journeys..flowed ok.. until the usual queues at Bristol -M5.

Lots of lane changers.. some a LOT safer than others.

Got OVER the M5.. traffic easing.. a few vehicles joining from the M5 slip.

A DUTCH CAMPER included.

No doubt a trip through Britol was quiite preferable ..

Another little detour to bear in mind.

The 110 miles take between 2.0 and 5.5 hours..so these little savings can be significant.

Got any random sat nav stories?

I was travelling up from Southampton to Newcastle upon Tyne which on a good day is 5.5 hours.

Literally no idea where this happened (somewhere on the M1) tbh I'd settled into long distance cruise control on and plough a groove mode also it was 2.5 years ago.

Anyway got a ping on the Satnav telling me traffic ahead do I want to reroute? Said yes, it took me off at the next exit and I found myself on a succession of B roads running roughly parallel to the M1 for half an hour. Eventually it took me back towards the M1 and I joined at a junction..to see exactly why I'd been re routed. A fiesta had joined from this very junction causing a pile up and closing the main motorway but the junction itself was clear so away we went.

I use Google maps every morning before work to check my commute, got about 5 different routes it tells you which one has the lightest traffic on a given day.

My BMW satnav did some stupid things on the run from Hook of Holland into Germany.

At some junctions, it decided I should go up the slip, wait at the traffic lights and re-join the motorway! Absolute madness.

Ended up on a magical mystery tour through Birmingham after being advised of traffic on the M42 (I think), asking if I wanted to re-route which I did but then missed the correct exit because daaaamn was that a confusing junction. Never wanted to visit Birmingham and, now having driven through it by accident, still don't want to :D

Back when I used to go Oxford to Snowdonia

Having had 12hour journeys.. I took to leaving at 18:00 friday..and because of the hour..the normal passing NEC 'ringroad' motorway route seemed a long way..so I took to 'straightlining' from M40 to M6.. easy

Seemed extra benificial.. given the vehicle cruised at 50..giving 28mpg.

All was well until OH joined me on this trip..
Was advised to add:
Smoked glass. Spinners and Banded tyres..

Just to 'blend in ' :p

Not sure the new look wouldbe welcome on arrival at the CAMP SITE though.. ;)

I live on a private road that's just about big enough for a typical courier's delivery van. The road is a dead end but at least 5 times a day some muppet comes flinging down. Then a few minutes later they crawl out backwards.
