Hey guys

has any one gota tv card what are thye pros and cons???

im getting a Digital & Analogue TV & Radio Freeview Tuner PCI card is a good idea????

cheers

internal or external makes very little difference. (unless it bypasses your pc completely) I have an internal, and it's mostly great. works like a dream, most of the time.

Only one problem is if i try to use something with layering on one monitor while watching telly on the other, then on occassion it doesn't like it and freezes thepc, with the only solution being to reset.

Other than that it doesn't use that many resources, and it has enough features.

It a hauppage one, which comes with a remote, but to date i've found the remote doesn't do everything I want it to do... (it's no good for channel searching, unles you know the number of the channel you wanna go to.

How new is your PC ?

I recently purchased Windows Media Center 2005

Get a card that is compatable with that....

It rocks !!!!

was that aimed at me?

if so, it's brand spankin, always is. but dual screen layering is always a problem with winoze

and if it was at me

i upgraded it in august it has a amd 3500 64 chip and 1 gb ram ands a nvida gfx card 6600

I am looking for a TV card at the moment for my machine....

Not 100% sure on what I want yet. Mine is an old machine, P4 2ghz 1 1/2 gig of ram.... etc

I mentioned to get one compatable with media edition, simply because what it allows you to do..... if you don't have or want that fair enough!!!

I have a fairly good and expensive tuner (digital and analogue) with remote etc. (PCMCIA) sat unused in a cupboard. Why? A TV does the job a lot better.

In my case, I have a small house.

So 21" Monitor, all my tunes on the HDD. The PC then does it all.... Best solution for me.

my tv doesn't record programs to my hard drive though... and i won the tv card, and needed an extra £50 so i flogged my telly. :)

Which is fine and my last laptop was 1400*1050. However, I personally use my PC for a lot of work and research so to have a TV displayed all the time was annoying to say the least.

I find the quality is nowhere close to the quality of my DVD-recorder, once encoding it can also be stressful on the PC, no good if you then want to say go and play a game.

Custard, you could use a co-ax in or S-video in on most TV tuners, trouble is, most have a delay...

Yea custard.. you can go to comet, curries or dixons and pick upa scart lead that converts to S-video, most graphics cards have them, that would sort out the recording of video, and then you'd need to sort out the aux in from the scart lead to your sound card.. hey presto recording away.

and about the dvd-recorder, i don't wanna waste DVD's recording half hour programs, and i also don't wanna spend a load of money ona dvd recorder...
and i can click on record, come back and i have divX top quality recording of what i want, an di have Sky+ pause and record capabilities.. AND it allows me to record 2 programs at once, which is interesting, and slows the hell out of my pc, but good.
and to top that off, i use 1 less plug in my already over laden 6gang extension, which means i can leave my scanner plugged in... oh, and my TV was smaler than my pc monitors, and i have better surround sound on my pc :)

phew all that...

You need a DVD RAM recorder then like me....

To clarify on the above, you CAN'T input to a graphics card (normally) since most cards have S-video OUT. You need a TV tuner or similar to do what you're saying Custard. As I said however, most have time delays so are no good for consoles.
