Hope someone can help. Been trying to post pictures of the flywheel locking tool I made in the Panda 2003 - 2012 section. I took the pictures on my digital camera and saved them to the pictures sectioning of my win10 laptop, as I have with many other images. Then I uploaded them to the site using the paperclip sign and uploading 5 images. The box on the screen confirmed the upload had happened. Then I wrote some descriptive text, moved the cursor down one line, clicked the "paperclip", selected one of the images and went on alternating text and image. When I then later checked the text was fine but instead of images there is just a message something like "invalid image" in each of the spaces where I tried to post a picture. If you go to the Panda section and click on my Flywheel Locking Tool post you'll see what I mean. Anyone tell me what I've done wrong? Please keep it simple as I'm pretty useless with computers.
Thanks
Jock

From what I can tell, you've done everything right, so it looks like it should have worked.
I know there is a file size limit on attachments, and some digital cameras do make quite large files. How big are the pictures? I think the max is about 9MB.

The other option is to upload to the Gallery first. You are currently limited to how much storage space you have in the Gallery but if you make a donation, even as little as £1, you get unlimited storage!

I've never used the paperclip.
After clicking reply, at the bottom choose Go Advanced. Then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Same window pops up as the one you've seen with the paperclip, but might of course be a different one.

Then browse to each pic required and select it. It's name should appear in the list. When all are attached, you must then Upload. And you need to wait until they've done so. This puts all the pics at the bottom, below your text. I never have worked out how others put them amongst the text.

Follow the same process you've done, once the upload is complete click in the text (before clicking Submit Reply) where you want the picture, use the dropdown arrow next to the paperclip and select the attachment you want to put there. It will no longer appear in a box at the end of your post and will show wherever you put it :)

Thanks for the help folks. Hadn't though about file size Eklipze. I usually keep the "middle" resolution selected on the camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7) to get a good picture definition without using up too much memory - worth a check though. You've also reminded me that I enjoy and benefit so much from the forum that I've been meaning to donate for some time but never got round to it. Resolution - do it today!

Thanks also for your comments P Bill. Previous contributions from you have led me to guess we are from the same generation and our minds seem to think alike so I must give your recommendation a try!

Got "stuff" to do today but Mrs Jock is off to Munich to visit her friend for a long weekend so I'll have plenty of time to try to make this all work over the next few days (she has left a "virtual" list of "to do" things though so some of the time is spoken for!).

I find "computer stuff" very frustrating. I'm quite old but still very active and do a lot of gardening, walking, cavorting with my four grandchildren, working (a lot) on cars and small horticultural machines etc, etc. I've never had "proper" instruction on computers but find I can use them to do things like emails, storing my photos, browsing the web and buying things, running programs like my VCDS and using it to diagnose Volkswagen group vehicles etc. I worry a lot about security (a friend put Avira free on my laptop when the free one expired) But I get really lost whenever I need to do anything which involves manipulating how the thing works. For instance, I've had Multiecuscan bought and installed on my laptop for some months now, I have extensively explored the simulated programs but can't get the interface to work. I know it's all about Com port, latency (although my computer seems to call it something else?) But this is all double Dutch to me! If I could just get the computer, interface and car talking to each other I'd be fine after that. Haven't looked at it for a while but going to do Becky's cam belt in the next couple of weeks and, from what I read, a "phonic wheel relearn" is very likely to be needed once that's done. (In fact the sheet which Gates include with the belt/water pump kit I bought actually says :- an ECU reset is required upon completion!) So I really must get to grips with it all.

By the way, did anyone see the news item which said we blokes shouldn't be on out devices after dark as the "blue light" which screens emit fool our bodies into thinking it's daytime which interferes with the way our bodies make and use hormones with the result that it considerably increases the chances of contracting prostate cancer!!? - My Mum always said "you won't go far wrong with a good book" looks like she maybe had a point!

As always, kind regards to all
Jock

I turned 60 early this year. How does that compare?

A computer is just another tool to do a job. Hateful things sometimes, but mostly because they are programmed by geeks who don't get out enough and don't understand how real people might want to use them. So I fight to make them do what I want them to.
I used to subscribe to a computer magazine, and did some training on office software many years ago, but otherwise self-taught. I know enough to usually get them working as they should. Although often, fighting them seems futile. Just keep me away from the programmers, lest I insert a computer into an orifice.

Have a look at this thread, specifically posts #3 & #5 . I recently upgraded my netbook to Windows 7 professional from Win7Starter, so less restrictive. So I had to reinstall MES and get it to talk to my ELM cable again. Followed my own notes and all went well. Service counter reset and ready for another year.
See if it makes sense. If not, see if you can ask specific questions and we'll get it working.

I'd heard before that using screens late prevents sleep. So here I am at 11:40pm. Need to get to bed!:D

Hi Bill. Been snowed under looking after grand children again - but I love it!

I'm 71 so we're not that far away?

Going to try to send a picture of the finished flywheel locking tool using your method. Had a look in my pictures file and they are mostly around the 600 KB size. Is that good?

going "Advanced" now!

Well, that worked :)
Didn't it just! Whoo Hoo!

I'm not absolutely sure but I think I wasn't giving the "upload" function enough time the first time I tried it?

Anyway, now flushed with success I'll try sending the whole sequence of images. - and just for good measure I'll include a pic of "Becky" up on the stands so I could do the trial fittings as I filed the teeth to shape.

Here goes then:-

You'll have noticed it took a while to get round to this PB. Mrs Jock had a lovely few days with her old friend in Munich but the list of things she left, which all needed doing and which I had been putting off, took considerably longer than I had allowed. it didn't help that I dropped my favorite Bradawl down the back of the full height built in oven unit whilst fitting some trim to the top of the unit. The trim had been removed some 3 months ago to facilitate cutting holes in the kitchen ceiling when the central heating packed up due to blocked pipes and sections of pipe had to be cut out and replaced! Anyway, a couple of hours of balancing on a ladder with my long handled litter picker and flexible claw grab and I got

Whoops! what happened there? I'm getting tired now, time for my cocoa and book. Anyway, I got the bradawl back. I'd have been very sorry to loose it and it would have been even worse to know it was there hiding behind the cooker unit! Funny, but I've had most of my tools for a very long time now and I know exactly what they all feel like when I'm using them. A replacement never "feels" quite the same. Most of my mechanics tools are like old friends.

Next challenge has to be to get the Multiecuscan interface working. You've given me some very useful guidance PB, thank you. I've got to house sit my youngest boy's house for a delivery tomorrow and it'll be high jinx at the weekend when grandson stays over but I may get time on Friday if I'm lucky! I'll keep you in the picture PB.
