Parking in gear

Parking in gear

This works well on all cars with drum rear brakes.

Stop normally. (Pressure to rear brakes is restricted in normal stopping.)
Do not yet apply handbrake.
Once fully stopped, push footbrake hard. You may hear the rear shoes creak a little as they are pushed hard against the drums.
Now, with footbrake fully applied, apply the handbrake. No excess force should be necessary.
Release footbrake.

Awesome! I'l give it a go :)

There's a Canadian trick to parking on an icy road.

Don't

Park as normal. Get out of the car and use a blow torch to melt the ice and dry the road a couple of feet in front of each wheel. Make sure you make patches big enough for the tyres to rest on. A5 to A4 paper size will do it.

Move the car forward on to the dry patches and park as normal.

If you make the patches for the driven wheels slightly longer you can use that as a runway to break inertia when you set off later.

I genuinely can't belive we're 5 pages deep on this thread :shakehead:

Aye! Joking apart, this would have been binned ages ago in some other forums. I suppose it's harmless but just so stupid......:bang:

There's always the 'unsubscribe' option on individual threads, let it run without you.

Sadly, very difficult to let go, isn't it.

Just as easy to ignore it and never venture in to to be honest but it still doesn't stop the obsurdity of this thread continuing  you either park in gear or not, surely it's just personal preference like what flavour crisps do people prefer.

That reminded me. Mrs Jock came home with "special edition" sausage and tomato sauce flavoured crisps last week - Yum Yum! - and I finished the last packet today. Must ask her to get another pack to avoid withdrawal symptoms!

That sounds like a great flavour. What brand were they please?:D
Just "fished" the packet out of the bin - don't say I'm not obliging - "Golden Wonder fully flavoured sausage and tomato". Mrs Jock must have been feeling generous that day, she usually only buys supermarket own brands!

I have to agree with you though jimboy, it's very hard to find anything better than cheese and onion! When I was younger I used to really love "shrimp and lemon" Nik Naks. I gave them up many years ago as the then to be future Mrs Jock said they made me smell like a poorly maintained gents loo!!! Been wondering lately if I should revisit, just to see if they were as good as I remember. That is of course if they are still made? What do you think? Should I take the risk?
