The top 10 cars you hate...

I'm amused at threads such as this, sure there are some ugly cars out there & everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It would seem most nowadays are spoilt for choice in the vehicle department, & there are those who are just blinkered recognising only one badge. All modern cars are clever machines one way or another. Perhaps I come from a time when, if you were lucky enough to actually own a car, it was freedom no matter what make or model.

Obviously I have my favourite cars, but actually hating a car for any reason, no I don't. In the past I've had love/hate relationships with a couple of my cars that I've owned, but that's for various reasons, mainly for letting me down at times when I relied on my car for transport. Off topic, what I hate is the other things you have to have in place during ownership of a car is the....tax,insurance,cost of fuel etc,ect.................(n)

Indeed, money is King, especially so these days. The car industry & all that goes with it, including aftermarket kits, mods & the stuff that "improves" performance. Vast amounts of money involved here. Slightly off topic...:)

My nominations, starting with some Chryslers:

PT Cruiser

Ypsilon

All German cars, because their bland, boring, dull and not particularly 'outstanding' at anything.

A relation of mine spent £720 getting a new clutch in a 2008 A4.....

Worth the 'regional managers' status?!

I'll stick to my Panda. £60 for my LuK clutch kit and a few hours work. Can't be much different on that sh*t box.

Rant over, back to being a happy Fiat owner ;-)

I wouldn't say Porsche are bland, boring, dull or anything but outstanding as a car, and they are German.

Unfortunately, they do have a plethora of idiotic design faults which has resulted in a 'remove the bolt' being 6 hours of 'remove the hardened steel bolt from the Aluminium sleeve after 17 years of corrosion'.

VWs and Audis are cars I don't really understand the obsession with (have worked in a VW parts dept in the past, and saw the reality). Thing is, if you ask a VW nut if they have ever owned anything but a VW, they often say no.

I guess the better a car is put together, the harder it can be to take apart!

I must admit, I'm not a fan of porsches myself, but certainly, the mainstream german boxes are achingly bland. French and Italian car makers have a less than ideal reputation, but they certainly tend to put a degree of flair into their products, something which mainstream german cars frequently lack.

I wasn't, until I bought one. Arse to work on, but there's FIAT Pandas worth more than mine, and yet people look at you like it's worth a fortune, which is odd.

Peugeot/Citroen are pretty "what's on the tin" cars - not premium, but they don't pretend to be. Easy to work on, for the most part, and parts are cheap. Renaults......not so convinced.

Citroen are back to their quirky best now. The new C3 even comes with a built in dashcam, which is long overdue in cars. Plus those big anti-dent buffers on the side :p

The lack of hydro suspension and distinct powertrain will always relegate Citroen to a position of a less reliable Peugeot to me.

We have a DS3 it's a very nice looking car but everything on it is a hand-me-down from another usually cheaper car. Dash from a C3 trip computer and stalks from a 307, engine and gearbox from a van. If it hadn't gone rusty, leaked and the dealer wasn't a cretin we probably would have considered a new C3 but the idea of a Citroen is currently much better than actually having one.

I think they are supposed to be a less fancy Peugeot, or at least as far as I've been informed when I was in the trade.

Apparently in France (so I was told), a Citroen is just expected to be a low spec A-B car.

Italian cars are built by Italian engineers. great engineering skills, overlaid with emotion and passion. Somehow, that comes through to the driver. Even if it becomes unreliable, and then you hate it, after it is gone, you'll miss it.

German cars are built by engineers. Clinical, efficient, reliable (mostly). But when its gone, you look forward to the next, and just remember you had one.

French cars are built by ? Insert your own idea here. I've not worked it out yet.

Speaking of quirky Citroen's..currently rolling this

What do people make of these?

On the whole, I quite like them. Interesting looks, not 100% sure on the 'four eyes' front end look with those Nissan style eyebrow lights.

Lots to like, but I only ever saw one that had been rented and really not looked after.

French cars in general. End of. Flimsy plastic tat, much like anything the Yanks think they can foist on us like P.T.Cruisers and 300c's. Shoddy, shoddy cars with 80's Yugo trim plastics. Used to hate BMW's but now it's the drivers - the cars are quite good. Talking of drivers, I'm getting fed up of customers coming in who think that just because they can buy a Range Rover, Disco 3/4 or RR Sport for Focus money they can run them for Focus money - wrong! No no no - they are serious money pits at the best of times! O.K. rant over for now.

maggers There's a very interesting video of a man on YouTube who bought a 2010 Range Rover in 2013 just out of warranty. He paid $3900 for a 6 year independent warranty. I think since then he's had a bill of around $5000 and it's the stupid things like steering height adjustment motor that keep failing again and again.. Madness but some people get themselves into debt to keep up the rich boy persona!!!

Rather feeds into one of my pet peeves, 19 inch wheels, low profile tyres shod in only the cheapest Chinese rubber.

In some ways yes I get it big wheels are the thing even a 1.2 corsa with 17 inch 215s as standard. Good tyres in that size cost serious money but no one put a gun to your head to get the big wheels did they? Then through the huge wheels you see discs and pads in tatters and uneven wear on the tyres e.t.c. Then you realise that despite the looks and original sticker price this a car being run on beer money.

Yes everyone doesn't necessarily look into future affordability but you don't need to Nostradamus to predict these things needing at some point.
