Re: Volkswagen emissions scandal

I think people are confusing CO2 and other things like NOx emissions.

Re: Volkswagen emissions scandal

Like others have alluded to above - I can't believe that VW will be the only ones that will eventually be implicated.
All the emissions figures are similar across the brands on like-for like engines, so if VW couldn't achieve (legally) something that , say BMW , Vauxhall or Mercedes could do already, surely they would buy themselves some opposition cars and reverse engineer them until they could achieve it rather than just plain cheating? Or am I being old fashioned?
Hitler would be proud of them.

Re: Volkswagen emissions scandal

So it seems it affects all VAG group products including the 1.6tdi.

VAG have become lazy and com placement with their customer base of late.

They know people buy the cars for the badge.

The current Golf costs 38% less to produce than the old one, the better independent rear suspension was replaced with an old torsion beam save for higher spec models, the rear door panels have no soft touch in sight.

However, they sell by the bucket load because of the badge, assumption that it's reliable, and that the press over rate them because of large advertising budgets.

The new Passat annoys me the most and is so lazy, it's just a big Golf, same chassis, same interior stack but costs so much!

Even Skodas are starting to lose their competitiveness: they used to be a decent car at a good price, but the latest Fabia and Octavia have generic, bland styling, and from what I understand, they aren't even that cheap to buy anymore.

It's not that VW couldn't achieve emissions, they just chose to be lazy.

Stop just assuming stuff and read up on the subject, it's entirely possible that no one else has this issue.

Skodas are not cheap anymore - that was the whole benefit a few years back, when VW engineered it's cars properly you could get the same engineering but at a far lower price. Now, they compete above the price range of Fords, Vauxhall etc - mind you Kia/Hyundai are doing this to.

Skodas used to actually be really quite nice cars, just possibly with less toys. With regards to Hyundai and Kia, they are also starting to make genuinely nice cars, but as you say, the prices are rising. Personally, i find the idea of Dacias quite appealing.

Hmm an old Renault with no galvanizing..what's not to like?

Tbf I have nothing against VW, they just built anything of note for a long time. They do have a top class marketing though, it'll have to be used to rebuild it's reputation rather than convincing people to pay more for average..
