Volkswagen emissions scandal

Volkswagen emissions scandal

The issue is you burn more fuel you don't just produce more CO2. You produce more of everything, if you're missing your consumption target by 40% then you're probably missing your other targets by a wide margin...especially if your anti pollution devices aren't even active.

I know that, I was just saying it's old news that the official mpg figures are pretty much meaningless.

what are the chances of all the new low emission commercials being affected and if they are what will happen to low emission zones if its found no one can meet the requirements, how will cities function?

So far only VW light commercials are implicated, hopefully they all won't have been as daft. If they have the government will face a choice between maintenance of life as we know it and principles/public health Cameron has no principles other than pandering to the news papers so whatever they decide is the right choice will happen.

Assuming they all did it, you couldn't take all the non-compliant cars and vans off the road tomorrow the economy would stop. So then what? Reclassify their tax at a higher level based on their actual emissions and charge the difference between tax paid and tax owing to the manufacturer? Would work as a per vehicle fine quite nicely.

Top man at Porsche is now in the hot seat at Volkswagen but I think he's got a long hard road ahead of him though

dave makes a very good point, I wonder if this will effect congestion zones at all? Not particularly in London but I'm sure there are other countries doing similar schemes like London.

Also remember when a judge in the UK said that anyone who was mis sold PPI could get compo? Does this mean that were all gonna get bombarded with textes from the "blame claimers" telling us that there's £2853 waiting to be claimed and that all we need to do is call a number? :p

Like others have alluded to above - I can't believe that VW will be the only ones that will eventually be implicated.
All the emissions figures are similar across the brands on like-for like engines, so if VW couldn't achieve (legally) something that , say BMW , Vauxhall or Mercedes could do already, surely they would buy themselves some opposition cars and reverse engineer them until they could achieve it rather than just plain cheating? Or am I being old fashioned?
Hitler would be proud of them.

So it seems it affects all VAG group products including the 1.6tdi.

VAG have become lazy and com placement with their customer base of late.

They know people buy the cars for the badge.

The current Golf costs 38% less to produce than the old one, the better independent rear suspension was replaced with an old torsion beam save for higher spec models, the rear door panels have no soft touch in sight.

However, they sell by the bucket load because of the badge, assumption that it's reliable, and that the press over rate them because of large advertising budgets.

The new Passat annoys me the most and is so lazy, it's just a big Golf, same chassis, same interior stack but costs so much!

Even Skodas are starting to lose their competitiveness: they used to be a decent car at a good price, but the latest Fabia and Octavia have generic, bland styling, and from what I understand, they aren't even that cheap to buy anymore.

It's not that VW couldn't achieve emissions, they just chose to be lazy.

Stop just assuming stuff and read up on the subject, it's entirely possible that no one else has this issue.
