Having never not had a tumble dryer, i'm now lost. Raining, and about a million socks to dry and various other bits of washing.. raining.. no dryer..

So i decieded to drive up to the uni halls, and use the driers there. Got there, and there was no room - so started walking back to the car.

I noticed a car/van looking thing, with what looked like a policeman sat in the front. Thought nothing of it and carried on walking, then a police van turned up and a police car, then a mobile CCTV unit. The policeman in the car/van got out, opened the boot bit and got out a sniffer dog.

I was just driving off by this point, so dunno what went on.

I can't remeber if posted on here or not, but basically last year in halls we were harrassed constanlty by the managment. They bloody hated students, and made us all well aware of that. I've been to many uni halls, most are relaxed places to be - stafford aint. Its looks like a modern prision, and it felt like one!

We had a lot of run ins with the management staff there, and then one afternoon after attending an investigatory in the morning, we were chillin out in the flat - and in walked the head of accomodation and her assistant, a plain clothed policeman, a uniformed officer and a sniffer dog (i forget his name).

Flat was searched, we had to stand in the corridor and watch. Dog came over and sniffed all of us. There was nothing for them to find. But the dog then sat down next one of my flat mates. This guy is the most anti drug person in the world, seriously. The head of accomodation really doesn't like him though (hmmm.. sniffer dogs will do what their trainer says..maybe it was told to sit down?) But anyway because the dog sat down next to him, he had to be searched by the policeman in his room. Not suprisingly, they found nothing.

That was typical of Stafford Court, not a really a nice relaxed place to live.

I've uploaded an aerial view, and once i find it - a video clip made by one of my flat mates that sums the place up quite nicely.

So if anyone ever asks you, what are the halls like at stafford uni.. you can tell them, facilities are not bad, rents not bad, but its staffed by power crazed, student hating gits (apart from Al, the security guard).

edit: here is the video, its 8mb but its good imo! http://tackycheese.net/TEH FILM.avi

There was obviously a wave of drugs being used or selling on the premises hence having the sniffer dog, maybe not by you or your flat mates, but on the complex somewhere.

Maybe random checks were what was being carried out in an attempt to stamp out the drug using/selling

no, thats not it at all. There were a few people around smoking dope, but then doesnt that go on at all unis?

They had the police up there quite often, being imo far too over the top. Another example, one of the rugby guys went to shoulder barge someone in a corridor, missed him and smashed a door open. Fair enough, shouldnt have done that. He was fined by the uni for the damage (fair enough) but then the police came up to uni and arrested him for criminal damage... over the top there.. i think so!!

I suppose it depends on what has gone on prior to you first going there, perhaps there was some major problems, and the uni has just got tougher on its policies.

Well then maybe it is seen as potential trouble area and so have 'nipped it in the bud' with their tough policies

i dunno then they were bored and thought they wud see if any **** was going down at the halls, its always the ones you least suspect................

I got searched in halls 2 years ago - they asked though, said if I didn't agree to it they wouldn't do it??? Anyway I agreed obviously. Whether they took the people who didn't further I don't know, but I hope so!

Anyway it was only that once, our lot wern't being OTT in fact they let people get away with a lot (eg shopping trolleys, road signs etc)

yeah, at stafford court they don't - flatmate claimed a banner off a roundabout one drunken night.. few days later, policeman turned up.

That does sound rather harsh... Lancs. the Porters' / Deans' etc don't appear to give too much bother unless youre causing aggro or endangering life...and you could almost get away with murder if you knew the right people ;)

That video is fantastic btw :D.

I downloaded it, but it don't play properly I only get sound not music...
