Well, if you take my hours BUT use that rate - 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year SALARIED, then I would come out with £9,847.50 - so no, it doesn't seem enough.

What was the previous rate? I should know it

I agree. Im paid £6.35 per hour for lazing around in a call centre a few times a week. I wouldnt say I exactly bust my ass off....

So the unlucky buggers on the NMW really are in a bugger of a situation!!

You know your quite funny for a Scotsman! :p

It all depends what you're doing. I am on that amount, salaried, but have no real expenses. I live at home with my parents and only need money for car, phone, drink and a bit for rent.

It is easily enough for me to live comfortably on this. BUT if I had a mortgage etc, then I might be struggling.

Seems pretty low to me, where we live a 1 bedroom apartment is £120K, so a mortgage alone on that would more than the salary after tax. So how would you be able to live.

I also think the minimum wage should be dependant on where you live, if you live in the South you need a higher wage than other places because traditionally it cost more to live there.

Hang on... should ppl on minimum wage expect to be able to run a car?
If they could then surely there'd be less need for public transport and total gridlock. There's too many cars out there already and far too many that should be off the road as it is.

Having said that, you have to make the minimum wage worth people getting out of bed for, to make working more attractive than not.
