OK so i no its not a Fiat but maybe someone can help.

As in the other threads like https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?p=452253#post452253 im thining of putting an Escort on the strip. (rung wot you brung)
Problem is (i think) the fuel pump.
They have internal pumps and getting one (even second hand) aint cheap and as they were only on for one year (last year of manufacture) they are like rocking horse poo to get hold of from scrappies and such likes.

Ive had the offer of a racing style tank and so am thinking of going for a stand alone fuel pump.
Does it matter what pump you use as long as it meats the engines minimum fueling rate? Do they have to be linked to the ECU or can you just put a swith on for on/off withough killing it?
I may still have one from my old rover and my next door neighbour has a bucketfull off bits off his coswarth sierra so may have a pump left.

Any other ideas also welcome!

A work mate has an Escort and it will not always start even after a long run it was found that the fuel pump was'nt doing its job but finaly traced down to the relay not switching. A tap on the relay and the pump would come to life.

I can hear the pump going and there is pressure there, just not enough. Will start and idle but 'suffocates' on throttle.

With it being internal its very tight fitting which is why im thinking of an internal tank (in the boot) and standalone pump.

Also if i do this and enjoy then when the car dies ill just swap the tank and pump into next banger. (y)

Also just so people know its a 1.6ltr xr3i
It is injection but think the engine may have been out of an Orion Ghia, although not 100%

dont see why you cant fit an external pump.wouldnt really need to change the tank.
you could just hook the pump up to the existing power for the pump so you are not forgetting to switch it on/off.
only thing you would need to check is pressure/flow rate as you mentioned as you dont want to over pressurise the system beyond its tolerences

How do i find out the max presure for pump.
And the tank in is new but wont be needed with external pump so will sell that and it will be enough to get the race style one made up which i will be able to use.
