can someone tell me what the advantages are of having a 1.2 16v engine over a regular 1.2 engine.

i remember reading somewhere that the 1.2 16v is equivalent to a 1.6 engine, is this true??? apart from the lower insurance for the driver why wouls fiat choose to put a 1.2 16v over a regular 1.6 engine

i hoping to get a punto sporting pretty soon so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated

Old Punto Sporting with 1.6 had 90hp IIRC, newer 1.2 Sporting 16v had 85hp.

I'd say the lower emissions and lower insurance class would be the reasons for using it.

The 1.6 8v had noisy tappets that required regular servicing.

The 1.2 16v has hydraulic tappets.

The 1.2 16v will use less petrol too (i would imagine) and cheaper tax.

Unless, of course, the 1.6 is in a Ford Focus, then the 1.2 rocks, apparentely ;)

Any 1.6 Ford engine all have 90BHP (ish)... damn emmissions laws :( however if you put the 1.8 head on it has wider valves and you can get up to 110 out of it, and they're heavier cars...

The only advantage with a 16v engine is that it can breath better, its also more likely to be an MPI so fueling is more exact and thus is more efficient than a carb based or SPI engine.

Snap for my 1242 16v in a heavier car as standard :p It still beats a lot of bigger cars on the motorway, usually only when the other driver bottles it though.
