Hi guys, just bought my first fiat and was advised from my older brother who owned a yellow Punto sporting many moon ago to join the Fiat forum and get talking to other members and share any potential problems I may have. touch wood I've owned the car for a few weeks now and its been bang on.

I spent about 6 months looking for a new car on the auto trader and initially was looking for a solid German built fast diesel saloon, something that would be an ease to drive up and down the motorway for my daily drives to uni and work (why am I lying, the real reason was my friends all have German cars and to feel part of the crew I felt the need to part ways with my workhorse 60mpg Astra asap)

. This turned out to be a much harder task than I expected. I viewed numerous Audis and BMWs and even one Mondeo ST, not knowing in a few weeks time id be parting ways with £4500 and buying myself a 1.4 Punto T-jet...

...strange I know.

Cut a long story short... saw it, drove it, loved it... bought it!

Hoping to keep it completely standard, ride is great, hardly any body roll, with 4 continentals on it holds the road really well and pull beautifully in 2nd and 3rd (embarrassing a lot of my friends Audis and Bmws). In addition to this, might I add, am I right in saying the the T-jet is the quickest of all its rivals? i.e 120bhp league!? Interior could be better, but the seats are wonderful and the standard sound systems is half decent. Hands free calling, message reader and media player are areas I haven't properly explored (will do this week) but overall, great buy and will definitely consider buying another hot hatch Punto again.

My question to my fellow Puntorians is...

Right choice?
What should I look out for?
Been told I should change water pump and belt as soon as it hits 50K miles, is this something while is prone to fail?
Worth re-mapping?
Looking at HID conversion, what's the best kit/supplier to buy from for fiats as I don't think the Puntos take H7 bulbs, leaving my current HID kit worthless.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'll let someone who knows their stuff answer the technical questions but regards the right choice? It's your car only you can answer that one! Sure someone could draw up a nice spreadsheet as to why its the right or wrong decision but if you like it then who gives a stuff?

I ask a few questions

do you love it?
Does it powerful enough?
What about self diagnostics - MES is okay on free edition, lets see a BMW/AUDI have that sorta system!
Are parts reasonable priced - Yes and no, but still be hella better then BMW/Audi etc
White is the new black :)
And whats better
A strict boring straight faced German or a ***** enlarging, Hormone stimulating Italian Flare!

Hahahaha Ziggy that made my day Hahaha
I do love it, had her washed and polished inside and out today and she is smelling sweeeet. She is powerful, had a quick blast down a dual carriage way a few days ago against my mates 2.0 A3 FSI and left him standing, was consider a remap but im not sure if the 1.4 would be able to deal with the extra power, dont want her going 'pop'!

MES? What is this? Tell me more!!

Thanks Charlie!

Looks pretty intense stuff. So I'm guessing its a diagnosis tool which you can do yourself rather than paying some tool at a garage £40 just to plug a wire in a port and press on button?

Which is the best one to go for? Free version?
Download on laptop or phone?
Will I have to buy a separate cable to connect to the actual in car system?
