Transferring £9,300 to the solicitor, and knowing I've still got to part with another £11,700: scary stuff!! [emoji33]

That sounds suspiciously like a house deposit?

Fun memories of going to the cash point and doing a balance check and seeing 20k...and then it was gone should have printed a balance slip off.

Anyway what's made me neither grumpy or smiley..looking at new cars. Choice appears to be, another Mazda 3 but next gen on..but it carries the issues the current one has so no front isofix slighlty cramped rear for getting child seats in..only average boot for class..then adds a new issue of a spare wheel being a 400 quid option..that makes the boot smaller than my existing car. That and I actually fancy a bit of change.

Looking at the skaudivolkseat option..bigger boot, bigger, nicer interiors, isofix isn't inaccessible without guess work. Otherwise they seem to run a gamut of dull, to very dull and expensive for what it is to How much? Although I am limiting myself somewhat by not wanting to go back to torsion bar rear suspension which rules out all the cheaper end of the various MQB cars..and it gets even more expensive if I want equipment parity, so dual zone climate, heated seats e.t.c. Golf GTI, Octavia Vrs, Leon cupra would be nice..but I need a reliable car.

If I did decide sod it I'll give up on the independent rear suspension..then the latest Astra is very well equipped, well sized and cheap. Also comes with a nice 150 turbo petrol which should be sufficient. But my level of excitement for this is 0..

Kia/Hyundai again I actually look forward to driving my car..can't imagine that ever being the case with these unless I got an i30N.

Peugeot 308? lol nooooooooooo! Same applies to any soft roaders.. they just aren't my scene although I'm sure they would make a better fist of the baby gear.

So having said all that where am I..well I'm looking at either a Mazda 3 MPS (my current car with a jalapeno under the bonnet very much the childish option) or a Volvo V40 T2..

I think the difference between those 2 probably says I really need to decide which direction I'm heading in before buying a new car!!

You are very much correct! Finally, after originally having my offer accepted in late may, the completion date is this Friday!! Then begins the job sorting the flat out before I can actually move into it!

Volvo are nice but the interiors have a similar level of excitement to the usual bmw, merc VW group bunch.

I dunno how much you want to spend and nor do I know the finer points of the suspension set up, however as we have one, I could not recommend enough, the Mini Countryman (>2017 model) enough. loads of room for small people, push chairs, grandma and the dog, as well as good Iso fix points and plenty of spec to be had.

They do start at about £17k-ish

Having done a little research on the Volvo...boot is smaller than mine so I'd need an estate, and no body bought petrol estate new so.. there's none for sale within 100 miles. However I can't be bothered with going 20 miles out of my way to keep a DPF happy..especially when the length of trips it'll do will mean petrol fuel like consumption.

Regards the mini...well the same benefits would apply to a C3 Aircross or a Mazda CX-5 or a Qashqai..but I don't want to go that way just yet. That and I still do not get on with the MINI "design" language.

May wait for the skyactiv X Mazda 3 next year and either get that or pick up a last of the current one for a song..

There is a lot to be said for the little SUVs when it comes to family cars, you can load them up with a ton of stuff fit a family of big and small people.

My wife loves minis hence why we keep getting them, however if you’re well in the Mazda camp I’ve heard only good things about the CX-5, and I did have a Qashqai for a couple of weeks in 2015 and found it was a lovely car to drive and well equipped, although the 1.5 Diesel engine was a little gutless. However overall for a car that was nearly £30k at the time, it did feel a bit cheap and plasticky

I made NO Great plans for this weekend.
Other than SOME.. DIY in Wales.

So.. I avoided a 3+ hours each way slog to Mitcar

Or a completely wasted weekend in Northants.(MotoGP = Abandoned)

Kind of got the best of it really..

Dont know where the summer went though :(

I'm just not there yet...having tetrised (that's a verb..to tetris..) a buggy, a car seat, 3 adults and a changing back and shopping into the C3, I know why people buy them, But it's just not for me. That and the stuff did actually fit in the C3.

I'd like a new car...cos I've the had the current one over 4 years and it's showing it's age in places but more practicality is a "nice to have" rather than why I'm looking at switching cars. I still want it to be fun on a backroad as that's where it'll spend most of it's time.

Boreville..like our Orville but specced by someone with a grasp of economics..and no sense of fun, grey and black bleurgh..also no snail under the bonnet so 82 horses.

Strange how 2 such similar cars can be so different.

there are now half a dozen of these in the carpark at work, all with the same numberplate except one letter at the end.

All totally boring like the one in the picture, except for one with orange wheels which looks a bit odd and all brand new. I think they must be pool cars for one of the departments as they are devoid of any personal items and seem to disappear during the day and all be back lined up at home time, but we never see anyone getting in or out of them and no one in our department knows anything about them.

This particular one is the Citroen dealerships courtesy car. Strange they went for this when they seem to take great pride in having a row of around 15 used C3s out front with no 2 in the same colour and spec.

Given our colour was free...you actually pay more for blandness. Seen a few grey ones tbf, usually driven by a gentleman of a certain age.

Don't you dare, we had a glorious, lengthy summer! I for one am glad it's over though, can finally sleep without having a fan on!

The temps ..fair comment.

I was referring to the mornings now being dark..and the evening getting darker..

All those jobs I planned are now being amalgamated..

Will be time for some off.season Cafe Meets though.. :)

Just had to pop to Tesco. It's raining so I went in the underground car park. In the evening it's usually full of mouthbreathers in ten year Fiesta ST's and the like. Tonight though one of them was in brand new Civic Type R! Surely if you're doing well enough to afford one of them your past hanging out in car parks of an evening!

Lost a headlamp bulb last night, not entirely unexpected given they were 3 year old Phillips Diamond vision..amazed they lasted this long given my old osram nightbreakers used to last 6 months at a time. Had a spare but not a Diamond vision so totally the wrong colour, not doing it..looks crap and wasn't going out in the dark today anyway.

Got a pair of direct replacements overnighted and resolved to fit them after work, it's normally a 30 second job..oh no it's not..doing it 1 handed in a 60 mph wind holding the bonnet from blowing off was fun indeed.

An well 5 minutes later it was done..hopefully until after the car is sold if they last 3 years again. Very glad it's not one of those ridiculous jack it up and or take the bumper off jobs..
