There lies the rub...this is not a clamp down, the speed van doesn't come out after dusk, or in bad weather or early morning. He can't stop dangerous vehicles that are complying with the speed limit, people on their phone, people with no tax or insurance, people who are drunk if they are doing 29mph...

As a method of enforcement it's a poor joke, especially as it doesn't even stop the undesired behaviour on the day if it is hidden. I'm sure you'll be sitting there thinking "ah but that is the job of the traffic police" and you would be right except of course it has been months since I've seen a traffic car up here, in fact they only seem to come up this way to attend RTCs..perhaps if they were up here more often they'd have fewer to attend.

And Dave that story does not surprise me at all.

What rub? Are those the times the speed limit applies?
All the stuff you list is illegal.
If you wish to change the focus of your local police force,then get active.
community pressure shapes your local forces priority.

Speed limit applies all the time...however the gentleman manning the speed van doesn't go out at all times and your chances of running into an actual police unit are very slim..if you want to speed just do it after 7pm and before 8am. It is a pointless exercise in raising money it allows more serious traffic offenses to go unpunished even if they happen in its direct line of site and also does it's best not to comply with guidelines relating to sign posting speed traps..so yeah we'll have our opinions. My opinion is they'd be better off putting a traffic officer somewhere in plain sight with an anpr camera, this is expensive but hey it's not about the money right?

Well it has to be paid for. right?
My view is the Police should be allowed to stream the revenue from speed cameras etc.
Ring fence it and put it back into local policing. An opt in tax.

Think of all the extra revenue they'd makr if speeding wasn't the only thing they enforced..;)

They might accidentally catch someone using a stolen car to get away from a burglary you never know...

Custard I know what you mean what we really should do is not pay road tax, have vehicles with no identifying marks, no insurance, knock people over in the street and leave the scene immediately. To ensure anonymity we could wear face masks whilst driving and break laws with impunity as there would be no license to endorse and decide which apply to ourselves and when...especially traffic lights..

Good news!
We dont pay road tax already.

And does that mean people pay it? What study brought the 99.9% figure?

Vehicle = car/truck/van/bus

Excise = tax

Duty = tax

So for accuracy if you say you pay "car tax tax" then you're right

But road tax is wrong

Between my Punto and mini we pay £30 a year car tax tax so they entitles us to everything

I've never been stopped by the police...:D

Been branded the "silent one" by the new flat mates :confused:
Why am I not allowed to watch a film without talking over it...:shrug:

I got pulled by traffic police today for scratching the top of my head.
he thought i was using my phone he checked my calls list and text list, asked me if it was my car and for id, then thanked me for stopping and went away

I've been driving round in a car that isn't on the MID, isn't registered to me and also apparently shows as a Ford Ranger on the DVLA database despite being a tiny little econobox...not a sniff.
