Multipla failed MOT today, but could have been worse ...

Test date: 22 November 2016
Test Result: Fail
Odometer reading: 123,318 miles
Reason(s) for failure:
offside front Fuel system component leaking around diesel filter (7.2.3)
Advisory notice item(s):
nearside rear Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)
offside rear Shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)

I hoped for a pass (ever the optimist), but a single item failure is the next best thing. Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow what it'll cost to fix the fuel leak: £50 ? £200 ?

Rear shocks are about 4 years old, they weren't an expensive brand, and at least I can replace these in my own time for < £60 (S4P).

You have to do 138 miles before you take it back....mileage will be 123,456 :)

Pain in the bum that. I hope you get it fixed. I now the filters themselves are expensive and although you can get the price down on the net its still not cheap. Most likely its a sealing ring. If not it sounds like a breakers will be your best bet. Best of luck with it.

£180 service on my Bravo

Yes £180 down the spout. But a run to Dover and back yielded 63mpg a marked improvement with fresh oil in the engine, and if felt smoother too. The auxiliary belt is due to be changed at 63K miles on a time expired basis, but I was to slow in responding to the garage to get it done before they put the undertray back so I just bought the belt. As the belt apparently still looks OK I shall monitor for the time being.

AT least the service at £149 gives me a comprehensive 12 month breakdown cover again for another 12 months which for me makes it reasonable VFM.

...I'm glad it looks like a car again, even though it's twelve shades of pink but how disappointing the Schumacher edition is. The wheels are too heavy for the engine and it's basically the same as an Abarth but with different badges and sill kick plates.

I'll give a week and if I'm not convinced it'll be going in the classifieds.

On the move again at work...

Been on the cards for a while as as a team my team has been out performing department average....so obviously it needs broken up. Not just any break up obviously, the lower performers are staying put the consistent high performers are being moved to different teams to be replaced by trainees.

Back handed compliment I guess, but new work mates and a new supervisor, new shift pattern although company being the company I know I'm moving but not to where at the moment. Neither does the my current supervisor as the whole thing was arranged on her day off (probably to avoid her wrath Tbf).

A few weeks ago on another forum I suggested people who can not do hill starts with the hand brake and sit at traffic lights and junctions with their foot on the brake were inconsiderate and incompetent.

Apparently hill starting with a hand brake is "impossible" with an automatic.

I didn't own an automatic at the time and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Well yesterday I became the owner of a Lexus LS400 (1UZ donor in case the Renesis goes Stimpy-ish in my RX8) and it took me about three seconds to work out how to hill start the behemoth.

Stop at a junction as normal and use the hand brake (in the case of the LS the foot operated parking brake). Take your foot off the brake pedal because while the engine is idling there is not enough centrifugal force for the gear to engage.

When the lights start to change or you see a gap etc slowly move the throttle pedal until you feel the gear bite and release the hand/parking brake (the lever to the left of the steering column on the Lexus).

That is how simple doing a hill start using the handbrake is in an automatic. Just as if not easier than a manual.

So the next time you see someone at a set of lights, junction, roundabout or anywhere sat with their foot on the brake pedal manual or automatic give them as much room as possible. They are a liability.

If they can not do something that simple then operating the vehicle must be like quadratic equations to them.

I dont have issues with Auto on hills....
I drive a Sprinter Merc Auto

On hills the handbrakes are crap! In Neutral they wont hold (espically when loaded)
But when i wack it into Drive - Release the handbrake as i stamp on throttle and go
The van just takes off

but tbh i have to keep moving - im on a tight scedule hahaha

But hills and taking off aint usually an issue
They dont allow roll back either - as they hold rear brakes for another 10 -15seconds from when you release them on foot

ziggy

I do a lot of training in Sprinter Autos for a major supermarket chain, without exception the handbrakes have all been capable of holding the vans on even the steepest of hills, even resisting the pull of the engine when the driver forgets to release it. If yours won't hold, get it fixed.

Had a policy with Direct Line last year when I was blackboxed - hella big savings. Never heard anything.

That policy has ended mid-2016, and I've for the first time ever got an email congratulating my driving. Probably need to get the thing turned off or cut out in that case. Flattered, sure. Knew they were tracking? No.

on a hospital visit to Central Oxford,

a skip lorry went by, 3 x stacked skips and a tidy looking Mk2 Punto in the top skip..

thought - what a shame,
I had good miles out of 2 x silver Mk2's

2 minutes later - I'm travelling behind a REALLY STRAIGHT
1994 Mk1 in Silver - it's rollin' on a space saver.. but not too detracting

need something like this tomorrow.. as the hour each way for a 3 min appointment is NOT fun.
